25 September 2010, Khanty-Mansiysk – Malaysia’s women chess team lost to Sri Lanka, 1-3 in the fourth round of the Chess Olympiad 2010. Alia Bakri won her board 1 game against Muhandiram while the other three boards lost, even though their opponents are of lower ratings than them. Malaysia will now meet the Iraqi women’s team in the fifth round later this afternoon.
As like the women’s team, the men’s team also lost by a similar margin of 1-3 to Switzerland team. Both IM Mok and Tan Khai Boon lost, while IM Mas and FM Peter Long drew their board games. The men’s team will now meet Bolivia in the fifth round of play.
Team Rankings after the fourth round show that Russia 2 team is in the lead with 8 MPs. Five other teams also have 8 MPs which include Georgia, Vietnam, Russia 1, Hungary, Netherlands and Armenia. The Bosnia & Herzegovina is in 8th position with 7 MPs.
Malaysia men’s team is now lying in 95th position after the fourth round of play at the Chess Olympiad 2010. Malaysia have 3 MPs.
Meanwhile for the women’s category, the Ukraine, China, Bulgaria and Russia 1 are joint leaders with 8 MPs.
Meanwhile the Malaysian women’s team is in 89th position with 2 MPs.
