Penang Chess League
The annual Penang Chess League takes place this weekend at the SJK Cina Kheng Thean in Jalan Van Praagh, George Town. Seven rounds, one-hour time control games. The event is open to teams from the public sector, business community, factories, institutions of learning and registered societies and clubs. Penang open
The Penang Chess Association (PCA) will organise the Penang Heritage City international open chess championship at the Penang City Hall from Dec 8-12. This will be a Fide-rated event with a RM5,000 first prize. Nine rounds, full time control games. Entry fees for the open tournament are RM50 (Fide-rated player), RM150 (PCA members) and RM180 (others), while for the challengers section, they are RM30 (Fide-rated player), RM50 (PCA member) and RM80 (others). SJKC Jln Davidson open
SJK Cina Jalan Davidson in Kuala Lumpur will organise an open chess tournament for under-16 players at the school this Sunday. Six rounds, 30-minute time control games. FIDE-rated tournament
The Cheras Chess Academy will hold a Fide-rated open tournament, limited to players with Fide ratings of 1950 and below, at Pusat Kecemerlangan Sukan Cochrane in Jalan Cochrane, Kuala Lumpur, from Nov 20-24. Perak closed
The Perak International Chess Association together with the Majlis Sukan Negri Perak and KLK Bhd will jointly organise the Perak closed chess championship at the Dewan MSN in Ipoh from Nov 27-28. Chess camp
A fun and informative Kids For Chess camp for beginners, intermediate-level and aspiring tournament players will be held at the Pandan Lake Club in Pandan Perdana, Kuala Lumpur, from Dec 1-2. DATCC weekender: The Datuk Arthur Tan Chess Centre will organise the fourth DATCC super supreme rapid chess weekender tournament at their Wilayah Complex premises in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 26. Seven rounds, 25-minute time control. Entry fees: RM15 for players below 12 and RM30 for others. Upcoming Chess Tournaments

7 August 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Here are two upcoming chess tournaments in around the Klang Valley over the month of August 2010.
Cerdik Catur
The Cerdik Catur chess challenge will be played at the Kompleks Belia dan Kebudayaan Negeri Selangor in Section 7, Shah Alam this Sunday. For Shah Alam residents, the entry fees are RM20 for adults and RM15 for under-18 players. Non-Shah Alam residents are required to pay RM5 more. Merdeka rapid events
The Merdeka individual rapid open tournament will be played on Aug 28, the Merdeka team rapid open tournament on Aug 29-31, and the Merdeka individual national age-group rapid open tournament will be on Sept 5. The venue for all three events is the Cititel hotel ballroom at the MidValley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur. Entries close on Aug 10 for the first two events and Aug 29 for the third event.
For the individual rapid event, entry fees are RM20 for players below 16 years old and RM30 for others. For the team rapid event, entry fees are RM300 for four-player teams and RM375 for five-player teams. Junior teams (all players must be below 16 years old) will be charged at RM150 for four-player teams and RM175 for five-player teams. For the age-group event, the entry fee is RM25. The time control has been modified to 60 minutes plus 30 second increment to allow for those entering the National Age-Group (NAG) Chess Championships in Penang next weekend some training ahead of the NAG chess event.

After KLCA’s Grand Prix in Kuala Lumpur, we now have a new chess grand prix in Segamat, Johor. The chess grandprix phenomena is spreading like wild fire in Malaysia! Johor on fire with chess!

There will be two sections – Open, Junior (U-18) & Kids (U-12), played using the Swiss System, and the rate of play will be 45 minutes for the whole game.
There will be 4 legs, played monthly, followed by the grand finals:
First Leg: 6-7 March 2010
Second leg: 3-4 April 2010
Third Leg: 8-9 May 2010
Grand Finals: 3-4 July 2010
Points (actual scores) accumulated from each leg will be used as the basis for qualifying for the Grand Finals, where the top 10 in each section will be given free entry and the top 25 overall finishers* in each section will be given priority in participation.
*The organizers reserves discretion in modifying the number of qualifiers.

10th Seremban Parade Chess Championship 2010, 27-28 February 2010

Seremban Parade is organising a two-day chess tournament on the 27-28th February 2010 covering several categories. On the first day of the tournament will be the Under-12 and Under-18 age groups, while on the second day will be the Open category. Judging from the time allowed for, it is presumed to be a rapid chess tournament with time controls of not more than 30 minutes per player. On both days, it will be a six round chess tournament.

MultiMedia University (MMU) Malacca International Chess Open 2010 Update!

Have just received an email containing a list of registered players for the MMU Malacca International Open 2010 to be held this coming weekend 6-7 February 2010 at Bukit Beruang, Malacca.

There are currently 15 registered chess players for the event and they are as follows:-

Here is a new chess tournament that will be held at Dato’ Arthur Tan Chess Centre, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur that will be held once in two weeks on a Thursday night. Those wanting to have a FIDE rating or wishing a chance to increase their FIDE Rating with a slightly different circumstances, then this is your golden opportunity to grab! The details of the FIDE rated chess tournament is as follows:-

Date : Every alternate Thursday nights (except round 6 & 7 )

Begins on 18th Feb. 2010

Time : 7.00 p.m. – 11.00 p.m.

( Muslim players are allowed to stop the clock for 10 minutes for

Maghreb prayers)

Place : DAT Chess Centre,

4th Floor,

Wilayah Complex,

Kuala Lumpur.

Rounds : 7 rounds ( Swiss System )

Time control : 90 min. + 30 sec. ( increment )

Players : Limited to 40 players ( Rated & Unrated )

Rated players must be below 2200 FIDE Rating

Fees : Deposit RM 80 ( Returnable )

Another upcoming chess rapid tournament for chess enthusiasts to consider for the month of February 2010. This time it is down south in Malacca.

Carlsen’s and Kramnik’s Games In Round 11, Corus 2010

Two games from 11th round, Corus Chess 2010 at Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands. The first was between Carlsen and Dominguez where the Grunfeld Defence transpired. This game gave Carlsen a 500 Euros bonus prize as it was selected as the best play of the day award for an interesting game. While the second game is between Kramnik and Shirov where the Petroff Defence transpired and the game ended in hard earned draw for Kramnik playing as black.
