Economist-SGSEU-1 Is Winner Of ECC 2010

24 October 2010, Plovdiv – Economist-SGSEU-1 was proclaimed the champions of the 26th European Club Cup 2010 which ended in a draw against rivals, Yugra of Russia. The seventh round produce draws on the top two tables. Both Economist and SOCAR drew against their respective opponents on tables 1 and 2 in the seventh round of the European Chess Club Cup 2010 in Bulgaria.

Meanwhile Baden-Baden OSG of Germany played to form by beating Mika Yerevan 3.5-2.5 on the third table. Board 4 played by GM Naiditsch Arkaidij of Baden-Baden was decisive. Naiditsch beat Pashikian 1-0.

Economist Wins Against Mika Yerevan, ECC 2010

23 October 2010, Plovdiv – In the sixth round of the European Club Cup 2010 in Bulgaria, Russian Economist-SGSEU-1 with GM Eljanov on board 1 has managed to retain leadership of the overall rankings after overcoming Mika Yerevan. Board 4 was decisive where GM Andreikin Dmitry of Economist-SGSEU-1 won the game against GM Pashikian Arman of Mika Yerevan.

Ranking After Round 6, ECC 2010. Russian team, Economist-SGSEU-1, is the outright leader after round 6. They beat Mika Yerevan of Armenia, 3.5-2.5 and are standing tall in the overall rankings. Now suddenly, Yugra of Russia is in second place, after they beat G-Team Novy Bor, 4-2. GM Jakovenko of team Yugra on board 1 and GM Rublevsky on board 4 were decisive games. The top seeded team, SOCAR Azerbaijan won over St. Petersburg, 3.5-2.5. GM Shirov playing for SOCAR on board 4 game was decisive. Shirov beat Movsesian, 1-0.

Ennis Chess Club lost again to Expik, 2-4, only this time Zulkipli Zaidan did not play.

Economist-SGSEU-1 Springs Surprise Win, ECC 2010

22 October 2010, Plovdiv – The fourth seeded team sprang a surprise win over top seeds SOCAR Azerbaijan with a 4-2 win in the fifth round of the European Chess Club Cup 2010 in Bulgaria. This means, SOCAR suffered their first team loss and catapults Russian team Economist-SGSEU-1 as the topgun chess team on the leaderboard.

Meanwhile team Mika Yerevan of Armenia drew 3-3 with opponents G-Team Novy Bor. Mika Yerevan is still unbeaten. While St.Petersburg Chess Club beat Bosnian team Bihac CK, 3.5-2.5.

Team Ennis Chess Club of Ireland was given a bye in the fifth round and that means the team has a rest for one round. Hopefully they will come recharged for the sixth round game. They will meet European team Expik.

Three Top Teams Continue To Win In 4th Rd, ECC 2010

21 October 2010, Plovdiv – During the fourth round of the European Chess Club Cup Open 2010, a surprise win by Economist-SGSEU-1 over third seeds, ShSM-64 Moscow, 4-2. Bihac CK finally succumbs to the might of Mika Yerevan, losing 1-5 to Mika Yerevan with GM Aronian on board 1.

The top seeds, SOCAR Azerbaijan wins again in round 4 over 17th seeds, Vesnianka Gran of Belarus, 5-1.

Ennis Chess Club of Ireland continues its losing streak in the fourth round when it met Etela-Vantaan Shakki of Finland losing 2.5-3.5. Ennis’s top board and two lower boards brought in the points. Zulkipli Zaidan lost to an FM-titled player.

SOCAR Continues To Win, ECC2010

20 October 2010, Plovdiv – Five teams are still winning all their match-ups after the round 3 in the European Chess Club Cup of the Open category. The five teams are SOCAR Azerbaijan, Mika Yerevan, ShSM-64 Moscow, Economist-SGSEU-1 and Bihac CK.

Second seed team, St. Petersburg Chess Club suffered their first defeat to the Armenians led by GM Levon Aronian.

Rankings After Round 3 ECC 2010 (Open). Five teams are with full 6 points from three rounds of play. Second seed St.Petersburg suffered their first defeat in round 3. A similar fate befall on fifth seeded team, Baden-Baden OSG of Germany when they lost to Boris Gelfand’s team, ShSM-64 Moscow.

Meanwhile our Malaysian friend, Zulkipli Zaidan, finally broke his duck with a draw against Liodakis Konstantinos of Chanion Skakistiki Akademia, Greece. Unfortunately Ennis Chess Club from Ireland continued with their losing streak by losing 2.5-3.5 to the chess team from Greece on the last table of the tournament in Plovdiv.

Malaysian In Euro Chess Club Cup

19 October 2010, Plovdia – A Malaysian has been found to be playing for Irish team Ennis Chess Club in this series of the European Chess Club Cup in Plovdia.

He is Zulkipli Zaidan, 2053 rating and playing on board 4 of Ennis Chess Club. However our Malaysian friend is not faring too well as he has had two losses against one IM and one FM in the previous two rounds. Let’s hope he will do better in subsequent rounds of the ECC 2010.

Round 2 Results, ECC 2010

19 October 2010, Plovdiv – Most of the favorite clubs won their second round match-ups including SOCA Azerbaijan, Baden-Baden OSG and Mika Yerevan. Team Yugra lost narrowly to the second seeds, St. Petersburg Chess Club, 2.5-3.5, giving St.Petersburg the win.

Women’s European Club Cup 2010

A shock defeat to top seeds, Cerde d’Echecs de Monte Carlo to Samaia Tbilisi, losing 1.5-2.5 in the second round.

Team Mika Yerevan is now leading with four points, together with three other teams, Giprorechtrans, AVS and Samaia Tbilisi. Top seeded team, Cercle d’Echecs de Monte Carlo is now at fourth position after losing their second round match.

Black played the first big mistake by taking the white pawn at c4, 27…bxc4? allowing white’s rook to take the pawn with a gain in tempo by attacking the black queen at c8, 28.Rbxc4!

Second mistake made by black by taking the white pawn at d6, 31…Bxd6?allowing the rook at c1 to take the exposed black Queen at c8 with 32.Rxc8+, again with tempo!

If black plays 35…Nf4, then 36.Bh6!? pins the black bishop at f8.

SOCAR Wins First Round, ECC2010

18 October 2010, Plovdiv – The top favorite team, SOCAR from Azerbaijan won easily the first round match against Gambit Asseco-See Skopje of Macedonia 5.5-0.5 during the start of the European Chess Club Cup 2010 at Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Similarly, St. Petersburg Chess Club, the second seeded, won easily against Evry Gran Roque of France by a similar margin.

The strongest team and top seeded team is the newly formed SOCAR Azerbaijan with average ELO of 2732. Five of their top boards are in the 2700 club - GM Mamedyarov, GM Grischuk, GM Shirov, GM Radjabov and GM Vachier-Lagrave. The team is completed by the ex world champion GM Rustam Kasimdzhanov and the Azeibarjan stars GM Mamedov and GM Safarli.

Second seeded team in the European Club Cup is ShSM-64 Moscow with average ELO of 2713. The team features GM Gelfand, GM Karjakin, GM Wang Hao, GM Caruana, GM Grachev, GM Riazantsev, GM Najer, and GM Savchenko.

Meanwhile ShSM-64 Moscow won against Obiettivo Risarcimento Padova of Italy, with a 5-1 scoreline. Meanwhile team Mika Yerevan of Armenia won their match against LugPokerChess-Lugansk.  GM Aronian, GM Akopian, GM Sargissian, GM Pashikian, GM Petrosian, GM Andriasian, GM Melkumyan, GM Anastasian are playing for team Mika Yerevan as the seventh seeded team.
