 24^th GACC Chess Championship – Chess For All

29th Nov 2019, Kuala Lumpur – Tuanku Bahiyah Residential College, University of Malaya will be organizing an international chess championship for the 24^th year in a row, known as 24^th GACC Chess Championship to promote the culture of playing chess in the society of Malaysia. The event will take place from 8 February 2020 to 15 February 2020, at Dewan Tunku Canselor, University of Malaya. This year, there will be 4 main events to encourage participation not only for undergraduates but also chess players from the primary, secondary schools and also the public.

GACC Chess Championship is an annual chess event organized by students and is a well-known international chess competition among the chess community. A total of 68 Universities from 22 countries have been a part of GACC since the 1^st event back in the year 1996, including China, India, Indonesia, Germany, Sri Lanka, Singapore and other Asian Countries. This FIDE-Rated event has been going on for 23 years since 1996.

The 24^th GACC Chess Championship is recognized by Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF), Kuala Lumpur Chess Association (KLCA) and Ministry of Education (MOE). Participants of the Age-Group Events will be entitled to get international level co-curricular marks and meanwhile, for the International event, you will have the chance to meet and take up the challenge of playing against varsity chess players from all around the world.

With respect to the theme “Chess for All” this year, a Chess Carnival is newly introduced to GACC Chess Championship.  There will be exhibition and also many fun games related to chess for not only the participants and also for the public who are interested in playing chess.

RSC Standard 2018 Begins Today

15 Sep 2018, Kuala Lumpur - The Royal Selangor Club Standard 2018 for below 2200 rating started today with three rounds. Fifty players are participating. After three rounds, three players are in the lead with three points.

 

The three leaders are Looi Ka Loc, See Hooi Chin of Malaysia and Cahyadi of Indonesia.

Three more rounds tomorrow and two on Monday.

Wang Hao meets Firouzja Alireza on top board - Round 7, 15th Dato'Arthur Tan Malaysia Open 2018

24th August 2018, Kuala Lumpur - At the Malaysia Chess Festival 2018, GM Wang Hao, China meets GM Firouzja Alireza on top board of the 15th Dato'Arthur Tan Malaysia Open 2018 of the 7th round. Hot on their heels are our Malaysian IM Yeoh Li Tian with 5 points so far from 6 rounds of play. He is currently on board two playing against Indonesian Grand Master Megaranto Susanto.

The Malaysian chess fraternity has been abuzz that IM Yeoh Li Tian might manage a  GM norm from this year's Malaysian Open tournament. He has already earn draws from both the top boards, GM Wang Hao and GM Firouzja Alireza.

Yeoh Li Tian performance so far up to round 5 is shown below:

His average opponents rating is 2449 so far. His current performance rating is 2711, way above his current rating of 2497. He has scored 5 points so far. Based on best estimates, IM Yeoh Li Tian needs to score at least 6.5 points over the 9 complete rounds to earn the GM norm. Let's wait till Sunday, 26th August 2018 to see whether Malaysia may have a Grandmaster in the making.

17th GACC, 26-31 Jan 2013, University Malaya

12 Dec 2012, Kuala Lumpur - One big chess tournament coming up in January 2013 is the Grand Asian Chess Challenge (GACC) to be organised by University of Malaya and Rakan Muda GACC. The chess tournament will be held from 26 January 2013 to 31 January 2013 at University of Malaya.

It will be an International FIDE Rated chess tournament.

6. If absent on any round, RM 20 will be deducted for every round of absence. Balance of deposit will be returned on last round.

7. If any player cancelled participation, the deposit will NOT be returned.
