25 August 2012, Kuala Lumpur – As the Arthur Tan Chess Festival 2012 draws to a close, Quezon City Chess Team claims the 32nd ASTRO Rapid Open Team Chess Championship 2012 scoring 7 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss, 15 Match Points and 24.5 board points. The team comprise of GM Antonio Rogellio Jr, GM Darwin Laylo, Bengt Largo and Marlon Constantino scored brilliantly. They beat Malaysia’s Chess Tigers in round 7, 3-1. Quezon City Chess Team was rated as the 10th seeding but they ended the champions!

24 August 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In 15th position is team Pahang Setiachess comprising of Kamal Azmi Wahiduddin, WNM Nurul Huda Wahiduddin, Mohd Khair Wahiduddin, NM Kamalariffin Wahiduddin and WNM Khairunnissa’. Pahang Setiachess is seeded 14th.
They have scored 4 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses, 9 Match points, and 17 board points up to round 7 of the ASTRO Rapid Open Team Chess Championship 2012.
24 August 2012, Kuala Lumpur – At the end of the second day of team plays, Tagaytay Team takes hold of leadership with 6 wins, 1 draw, 13 Match Points and 24.0 board points. The team has no titled players but plays well above their own rating strength. They beat Team Chesskidz with two GMs on that team, 3.5-0.5 ! That is depth of chess strength! Wow!
Second is Quezon City Chess team, third, Marfori Philippines, and new kid on the block, Chess Association of India A on fourth, fifth is Chesskidz Shock Troopers and MasterMind comes back on sixth.
Meanwhile KL Fool Gone Mad is in seventh position and Chess Tigers down at eleventh position. Suddenly we see Serikandi, the all-girls Malaysian team making in-roads at 13th position. Followed closely behind CLOBA 80, Pahang Setiachess, Lemanag Ketupat Rendang Ayam, JTR and Golden Travellers from 14th to 18th position.

Meet the Serikandi, all girls Malaysian chess team. They comprise of WCM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham, WFM Alia Anin Azwa Bakri, WFM Nur Najiha Azman Hisham and Puteri Rifqah Fahada. Serikandi is lying in 20th position after the sixth round of play today.
Two proud parents, Azhar M Said and Azman Hisham Che Doi to the Azman Hisham sisters. While Azhar’s children are scattered in three or four separate teams in this tournament. One of the girls, Puteri Rifqah is in Serikandi.
24 August 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In the ASTRO Team Rapid, team Tandag City are now the new leaders with 5 wins, 10 Match points and 17.5 board points. Tandag City is represented by GM John Paul Gomez and GM Richard Bitoon and two other strong Pinoy chess pushers. In second spot is Tagaytay Team with 4 wins, 1 draw, 9 match points and 17.5 points while Quezon City Chess Team in third spot and MasterMind in fourth position.
Earlier this morning, the Malaysian Chess Tigers gave another roaring 4th round performance by beating MasterMind team, 2.5-1.5, narrowest of win. However, Chess Tigers have fallen to seventh position after the 5th round. Two other Malaysian teams have step into the picture with KL Fool Gone Mad in fifth position and JTR at 9th position. Meanwhile the Royal Selangor Club or simply RSC Team are in eleventh position and Penang Inferno on thirteenth position (look at table after round 5 below).

24 August 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Meet the roaring Chess Tigers of Malaysia. The team comprises of FM Nicholas Chan, IM Mok Tze Meng, Yeoh Li Tian and Khor Shihong, all Malaysians. They are currently in third spot after three rounds of play and have scored 6 Match points and 11 board points so far.
They will meet the top ranked team, MasterMind tomorrow morning in round 4.
23 August 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The JTR team of Malaysia comprising of Cheah Cheok Fung, Ooi Li Tao, Ong Thian Loon and Loo Pak Kwan met KL Chesskidz Academy of Philippines in round 2 of the 32nd ASTRO Rapid Open Team Chess Championship 2012. The KL Chesskidz Academy was headed by IM Senador Emmanuel and his band of friends from the Philippines made short work of JTR and soundly won 4-0.
23 August 2012, Kuala Lumpur - The team Lemang Ketupat Rendang Ayam of Malaysia played on top board of round 2 against a seeded team called Team Chesskidz of Philippines during the 32nd ASTRO Rapid Open Team Chess Championship 2012. No doubt Lemang Ketupat Rendang Ayam was no match to Team Chesskidz and lost 0-4. The Malaysian team comprised of Fairin Zakaria, Mohd Zambri Mohd Shariff, Jamil Hussein and Ismail Mohammad.
