Two Games Of Paikidze, Aeroflot Open 2012

16 February 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In the recent Aeroflot Open 2012 in Moscow, Russia, WGM Nazi Paikidze of Georgia, was playing in the category A chess tournament. Here are two game of rounds 2 and 6 involving Paikidze. One she drew and the other she lost. Both her opponents had higher ratings than her.

Bartel Declared Winner Of Moscow Aeroflot 2012

16 February 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In the Aeroflot Open 2012 held in Moscow Russia, the category A tournament chessdom.com reported that Reigning Polish champion GM Mateusz Bartel won the 2012 edition of Aeroflot Open that took place 7-15 February 2012 in Moscow. Bartel collected 6,5/9, the same points as Pavel Eljanov and Anton Korobov, but had better first tiebreak (more games with black) which puts him on first place in the final standings.

Korobov meets Bartel on Top Board, Aeroflot Open 2012

15 February 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Last night Anton Korobov beat his eighth round opponent scoring the important one point, while on top board, both Bartel and Eljanov drew resulting in a three-way lead among Korobov, Bartel and Eljanov.

Tonight, Korobov meets Bartel on top board in the final ninth round to decide the winner and probably the championship title for the Aeroflot Open 2012, category A.

Eljanov vs Bartel, Aeroflot Open 2012

14 February 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The top board is the highlight of the Aeroflot Open 2012 round 8. Eljanov takes on Bartel for sole leadership of the Aeroflot Open 2012. Both players are on 5.5 points after seven rounds and round 8 game will separate the boys from the men.

Last night, Eljanov stopped Korobov on top board of round 7, allowing Eljanov to take a shared leadership with Bartel. Meanwhile on board 2, GM Mateusz Bartel of Poland caused a stir by beating a higher rated Caruana of Italy. Round 8 tonight will be critical for those near the top of the table. A slight mistake can result in a loss or lead to a draw and losing precious points.

Caruana Poised In Equal Second, Aeroflot 2012

13 February 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Chessbase.com reported the brilliant performance of the Italian GM Caruana in the current Moscow Aeroflot Open 2012.

Chessbase.com said that you will immediately notice the sterling performance of 19-year-old Fabiano Caruana (picture above), who is playing at a 2831 level. After three rounds and 2.5 points he was at 2910, which we duly celebrated in our previous report. But then Fabiano lost unhappily to the tournament leader Anton Korobov in round four, validating the Portuguese saying:"Não se pode elogiar" ("You cannot compliment him/her"), which paraphrases to: the creator of the universe is watching his creatures and if anyone gets too cocky he will cut them down to size. However, Fab Fab, whom we have been embarrassing on our news page for a number of years now, fought back with two consecutive wins (against GMs Ildar Khairullin, 2638, and Hrant Melkumyan, 2620) to climb into equal second place and is now poised for a go at first. Yes, yes, we know: Não se pode elogiar.

In the live ratings shown above, Caruana has now jumped to seventh position just one rating point behind, Nakamura in sixth position.

Here is the sixth round game between Fabiano Caruana of Italy bouncing back by overcoming Hrant Melkumyan in the Aeroflot Open 2012, Category A, Moscow. The Queen’s Gambit Declined opening transpired during the game with white winning the game. Caruana is now in fourth position with 4.5 points after six rounds and has a chance to recapture the top spot if the others falter.

Anton Korobov Leads In Moscow Aeroflot Chess Open 2012

11 February 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Chessbase.com reports that The 11th Aeroflot Open is taking place in Moscow from February 7 to 15, 2012. Top seeds are Evgeny Tomashevsky, Fabiano Caruana, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Le Quang Liem, Francisco Vallejo Pons and Baadur Jobava, Krishnan Sasikiran, all ranked 2700 or higher.

After the fourth round of the Aeroflot Open, GM Anton Korobov of Ukraine is in the lead with 3.5 points. Trailing behind him are a bunch of GMs with 3.0 points among them are GM Denis Khismatulin of Russia , GM Ivan Sokolov of Netherlands and GM Bu Xiangzhi of China. Meanwhile GM Caruana of Italy has dropped to 25th ranked with 2.5 points to show so far.

Tourney mode: Open tourney 9 rounds Swiss System. Time control: 100 minutes/40 moves + 50 minutes/20 moves + 15 minutes + 30 seconds/move starting with the first move. Game start:all rounds 12:00 (15:00 local Moscow time). Tiebreak systems: For tournament A and B: 1st: The number of games played with Black. Byes and forfeited games will be considered as games played with White. 2nd: The average of the opponents' ratings minus the highest and the lowest rating.
