31 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Switzerland, Wang Hao’s lead is at risk unless he continues to win his subsequent rounds at Biel Chess Festival 2012. This is the round 8 game between Hikaru Nakamura and Wang Hao live from Biel.

31 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Switzerland, Carlsen won his round 7 game against Wang Hao and has caught up with Wang on the leaderboard. Both Magnus Carlsen and Wang Hao are on 13 points.
Meanwhile the other two games ended in draws, allowing Carlsen to catapult to joint first with Wang Hao. Giri – Nakamura and Bologan – Bacrot were drawn games.

30 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Switzerland, Carlsen jumped to third position after winning the delayed round 3 chess game with Viktor Bologan of Moldova on Sunday, 29 July 2012. Wang Hao still held leadership with 13 points, second, Anish Giri with 11 points and third, hail to the World number 1 player, Magnus Carlsen with 10 points.
Carlsen beat Bologan in a Ruy Lopez opening with the black pieces.

29 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Switzerland, Wang Hao maintains his lead as he drew his game against Bacrot and Carlsen drew with Nakamura of round 6 during the Biel Chess Festival 2012. Giri won his thrilling game against Bologan. A copy of this game is shown below with a short write-up of that game in the paragraph below.
The official website daily report of round 6 written by M Cebalo said that the only interesting game was Giri-Bologan. It started with something which looked like King's Indian, but very quickly transposed to some kind of Reti opening. Moldavian GM played again very actively, but didn't manage to equalize completely and in the middle game was even obliged to give a pawn in order to solve his problems, hoping to have some compensation based on his two bishops. However, Giri played very accurately, managed to exchange one of black bishops for his knight and to enter the endgame with pawn ahead. To convert such an advantage was not at all an easy task, and, Black helped with an unnecessary pawn move (f7-f5) on move 46, which weakened seriously his pawn structure and allowed White to activate his rook. After another 46 moves of resistance Black was finally forced to through the towel, which means that young Dutch GM is now on the second place with 11 points, while the leader Wang Hao has 13.

28 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Switzerland, Wang Hao of China continues to win in round 5. Wang has a 4 point cushion in front of his nearest rival, Nakamura. Wang has scored 12 points while Nakamura, 8 points. Meanwhile Magnus Carlsen is a distant 4th position with 6.0 points but has one game to play this Sunday.

27 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Switzerland, in round 5 of the Grandmasters section of the Biel Chess Festival 2012, the current leader, Wang Hao meets up with Viktor Bologan, the replacement for Alexander Morozevich of Russia who has left the tournament due to health reasons.

27 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Switzerland, the Grandmasters section of the 45th Biel Chess Festival 2012 has GM Wang Hao of China leading with 9.0 points. Wang Hao manages to beat Giri of the Netherlands during round 4 of the double round robin tournament.
Standings after round 4:
In a race of pawns to their queening square, Wang Hao manages to block white’s attempts to control the f1 square with the bishop. White resigned after black played 57….Nc4 with his black king guarding the black knight.

25 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Switzerland, Magnus leads after winning his round 2 game against Wang Hao in an Nimzo Indian Opening. Magnus scored 4 points and Giri also scored 4 points. Nakamura and Giri drew their round 2 game. In the third game of the round, Etienne Bacrot of France beat Alexander Morozevich of Russia.
Carlsen-Wang Hao. The official website reported that this time Magnus started with 1.d4 and the game quickly entered in Nimzoindian waters. White played the opening very agressively, pushing the central pawns and winning space at the cost of being slightly underdeveloped. Black castled short, while White castled long and such positions always offer a lot of suspense as a rule of thumb. In general, the winner is the player who manages to organize the attack quicker against opponent’s king, but this time Black was not able to organize some counter play because all white pieces participated in the attack which was unstoppable. With the nice rook sacrifice White obtained a decisive material advantage and Black resigned in move 35.

24 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The Biel Chess Festival is currently being held and six grandmasters are playing a double round robin. Carlsen drew against Nakamura, while Wang Hao won against Bacrot (game below) and Giri won against Morozevich. Both Wang Hao and Anish Giri are ahead with 3 points.
The official website reported that the beauty of the day was the King's Indian played in the game Wang Hao - Bacrot. Against the classical Mar del Plata line White has chosen the so called Bayonet Attack, Kramnik's favorite line in this opening. As usually in this line, White sacrificed a pawn for the initiative, but after couple of moves his pressure became so unpleasant that Black decided to give it back, trying to equalize chances by exchanging pieces. Unfortunately, that was not enough to save the game because White had a strong passer on the sixth rank which helped him to organize an attack against black’s king which was crowned with a decisive rook sacrifice.
