Nguyen Duc Hoa of Vietnam wins Penang Open 2012

15 Dec 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Georgetown, Penang, the 23 year old, IM Nguyen Duc Hoa (pix above) of Vietnam won the Penang Heritage City International Open 2012 with a score of 7.5 points and a superior tie-break.

Second, IM Nguyen Van Huy of Vietnam, third, Ma Zhonghan of China, fourth FM Ronnie Lim Chuin Hoong of Malaysia and fourth, youngster, Yeoh Li Tian of Malaysia.

Nik Ahmad Farouqi and IM Mas Hafizulhelmi finished in 29 and 30th spots with 5.5 and 5.0 points respectively.

Dimakiling Ahead In Penang Open 2011

9 December 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the 3rd Penang Heritage City International Chess Open 2011, Dimakiling (pix 1) is way ahead with a score of 7.5 points, a full point ahead of his nearest rivals, IM Nguyen (pix 2) and fellow countryman, Olay Edgar Reggie, both with 6.5 points after the 8th round of play.

It looks almost certain that IM Dimakiling Oliver of the Philippines would return as the defending Champion of this year’s Penang Open 2011. Nobody can stop him now.

Earlier in the morning, 7th round, IM Dimakiling, the defending champion, defeated Malaysia’s IM Mas Hafizulhelmi (pix 3) on top board.

Teh De Juan, Soh Isaak Leads Penang Challengers

8 Dec 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the 3rd Penang Heritage City International Chess Challenger 2011, Teh De Juan and Soh Isaak Ethan Hong Han, jointly leads with 5 points after 5 rounds of play. Challengers Section is the running twin tournament of the Penang Heritage City International Open 2011.

Teh De Juan beat Kelly Lim Pei Ying on top board of the fifth round and Soah Isaak Ethan Hong Han overcomed Teoh Ern Sheng on board two.

Meanwhile on board three, Mohd Faizal Roslan (Pix 1) won against Tin Ruiqi scoring 4.5 points after five rounds. Gilocatur’s daughter Anis Fariha bt Saleh lost to Geeneish Sivalingam on fourth board. Anis Fariha has 3.5 points after five rounds and Geeneish scored 4.5 points.

Nguyen Van Huy Leads In Penang Open 2011

7 Dec 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the Penang Heritage International Open 2011, IM Nguyen Van Huy takes the lead after overcoming Eng Andre Jerome on top board during round 4 of the tournament. IM Dimakiling drew against Olay Edgar Reggie on second board. On fifth board we have Mark Siew drawing with FM Ronnie Lim Chuin Hoong of Penang. Manaog Stewart (pix above) of Philippines lost to NM Tan Khai Boon.

 

During round 5, IM Nguyen will match up against Mariano Nelson III on top board while IM Dimakiling faces Turqueza Mari Joseph on second board.

On seventh board, Penangite FM Ronnie Lim meets fellow Penangite Loo Swee Leong while IM Mas Hafizulhelmi meets Bagamasbad Efren on 10th board. IM Mas has scored 2.5 points so far. On 14th board, Limono Handjojo of Indonesia meets Nik Ahmad Farouqi of Kelantan Chess Team who has scored two points from four rounds.

Dimakiling Among Leaders After Round 2, Penang Open

6 Dec 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the Penang Heritage City International Open 2011, defending champion IM Dimakiling Oliver of the Philippines is among the pack of 15 players with the perfect score of 2 points from 2 rounds of play.

IM Nguyen Van Huy of Vietnam, IM Nguyen Duc Hoa, IM Dableo Ronald and IM Mas Hafizulhelmi among the early leaders at Penang Open. Youngster Yeoh Li Tian was playing on top board against IM Nguyen, while Yeap Eng Cheam of Malaysia played against the defending champion IM Dimakiling. Both lost their games.

Veteran Loo Swee Leong played on board 2 against IM Nguyen Duc Hoa. Malaysian player Elgin Lee Kah Meng fresh from his Turkey exploits in the Under-14 team Chess Olympiad, also lost to FM Carlos Leonardo. Stonemaster’s brother Fairin Zakaria won against Asian Amateur Unrated Champion 2011, Manaog Stewart of the Philippines. Gilocatur’s son, Fikri Saleh beat Saprin’s son, Amir Qayyim in round 2 on board 34.

The chief arbiter of the event is Abdul Hamid Majid and tournament director, Tan Eng Seong.

Dimakiling Oliver Wins Penang Heritage City Open

12 December 2010, Kuala Lumpur – The final round 9 results of the Penang Heritage City Chess Open was won by IM Dimakiling Oliver of Philippines. He drew his last round game against IM Chion Zacarias Romero Luis of Philippines, too. IM Dimakiling scored 7.5 points after nine rounds of play.

In second place was won by IM Barbosa Oliver (pix left) of Philippines with 7.5 points. In third place was GM Murshed Niaz of Bangladesh with 7.0 points. Malaysia’s IM Mas Hafizulhelmi (pix top) was in sixth place with 6.0 points.

Dimakiling Leads in Penang Heritage Open 2010

10 December 2010, Kuala Lumpur – At the Penang Heritage City Open  Chess Championship 2010, IM Dimakiling Oliver of the Philippines is leading with 4 points from four rounds.

Dimakiling will meet IM Mas Hafizulhelmi (pix left), Malaysia’s top chess player in the fifth round later today. There are 70 players participating in the open category of the Penang Heritage Chess Championship 2010 and another 109 players are in the Challengers’ section of the chess event.

Penang Heritage City Open International Chess Tournament

24 August 2010, Georgetown – Latest news on Penangchess.com is the announcement of the Penang Open tournament. Penang will be organizing the traditional Penang Heritage City International Chess Open Tournament at Penang City Hall from the 8th – 12th December 2010 in Georgetown, Penang.

There are two categories comprising of the Open and Challenger categories during the tournament. The Open category is for all players and the Challenger for those having FIDE ratings of below 2000 or National Ratings below 1750. It will be a 9 round Swiss using classical chess time of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment.

Entry fees are as follows:
