Full Results Of Malaysia-Singapore Chess Ch 2011

2nd January 2011, Kuala Lumpur – Here are the full results of the four rounds of chess play between Malaysia and Singapore held at the Stansfield Residence 1, Vernon Road, Singapore on the 31st December 2010-1st January 2011. At the end of the results is the summary of team performance of both Malaysia and Singapore.

Final Result: Singapore vs Malaysia 74.5-77.5 (22.5-17.5, 19-19, 14-24, 19-19). Team Malaysia had White pieces on all 38 boards in rounds one and three. Summary of team performance  is shown at bottom of this post. Team Malaysia won this round of the Malaysia-Singapore Chess Challenge series with our Singaporean neighbours. Well done to Malaysia!!

1 January 2011, Kuala Lumpur – The Malaysia chess team triumphs in Singapore after drawing level 19-19 all in the final round 4 rapids of the Singapore-Malaysia Chess Challenge 2011 at the Stansfield Residence 1, Vernon Road, Singapore. This means Malaysia bring home the 3-0 winning lead and winning this year’s chess challenge 77.5-74.5 overall. Congratulations to team Malaysia!!!

With this win, Malaysia has finally avenged its loss in Kuala Lumpur and kept its critics at bay.

Well done to the Malaysian officials, players and organisers of the chess challenge! Hope to meet the Singaporeans again next year! Happy New Year everyone!

Malaysia Roars Back With 24-14 Win!

1 January 2011, Kuala Lumpur – Latest news of the Malaysia-Singapore Chess Challenge is that the Malaysian chess team turn the tables on Singapore by winning the third round rapid game with a 24-14 win! With this victory, Malaysia now take it’s turn to  lead the match with 3 points and the overall score 58.5-55.5!

Singapore Leads In Annual Friendly

1 January 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the Singapore-Malaysia Chess Challenge 2010-2011, Singapore chess team is leading with a 7-point lead after round 2 has been played. The overall score is now 41.5 - 34.5 in Singapore’s favour. Today, both teams will play two rapid games to decide this year’s winner.

In the previous Malaysia-Singapore chess friendly held in Kuala Lumpur on the 16-17 February 2010, Malaysia lost to team Singapore 75.5-76.5, losing by one solitary point on an overall basis.

Post Mortem Analysis Of Malaysia-Singapore Chess Challenge 2010

Here is the full analysis done by Najib Wahab on the four rounds of chess games between Malaysia and Singapore held in Kuala Lumpur, 16-17 February 2010.

For the Veteran Section, Malaysia is slightly better overall.

For the Senior Section, the Men’s Team did better than the Women’s Team for Malaysia.

For the Under-18 Section, Malaysia only won 2.5 points from a possible 16 points. Danger for Malaysia!

For the Under-16 Section, Malaysia is slightly better.

For the Under-14 Section, Equal – Malaysia beat Singapore in Classical but lost in Rapid.

For the Under-12 Section, Malaysia is better.

For the Under-10 Section, Malaysia is better.

For the Under-8 Section, Equal in Classic but very poor in Rapid.

Rounds 3 and 4 Results Chess Rapids, Malaysia-Singapore Chess Challenge 2010

Here are the full rounds 3 and 4 results of the chess rapids that took place on the 17th February 2010 at the CitiTel Express Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia’s lead from the first day of 6 up (41-35) went down (17.5-20.5) by 0-3 in the third round and (17-21) 0-4 in the fourth round, handing Singapore a 1-0 lead in overall score.

Singapore’s Secret Weapon : Malaysia-Singapore Chess Challenge 2010

Just read the Singapore chess blog, apparently the Singapore chess team had daggled a carrot to their chess players after losing the first round to Malaysia in the Classical, to ensure that the Singapore chess team rebounded with a win. A kind sponsor-cum-Senior Player generously wooed the Singapore players to win three or more games. It seemed to work!

Wow! Malaysia should have given similar incentives to their own chess players too! Hopefully it is a lesson well learnt. This is a team sport and incentives and a proper team spirit pep talk prior to the start of each round, could have roused the Malaysians to rise above their losses! It was a narrow loss but it showed that Malaysia is quickly closing the gap with Singapore.

Singapore Wins The Dato' Tan Kim Yeow Trophy!

Singapore wins the Dato' Tan Kim Yeow Trophy 2010 in the Malaysia-Singapore Chess Challenge held over two days (16-17 February 2010) at the CitiTel Express Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The final score 76.5-75.5 to Singapore's favour! Malaysia lost the two rounds of  chess rapids held today. Handing over the Dato' Tan Kim Yeow Trophy is the Honourable Tuan Hj. Ibrahim Abu Bakar, Vice President of the Malaysian Chess Federation to the Singapore's Team Coach, IM Jovan Petronic.

In the first round of rapids, Singapore won 20.5-17.5 and in the second rapids, again Singapore won with 21-17. With those two wins, Singapore completely wiped out Malaysia's lead  from the first day of the games and added an extra point, just enough to make it a win for the Singapore chess team.

Alas! it was not to be Malaysia's day! As they say, We will meet again, Singapore! Till the next duel on the chess board! We bid farewell to our worthy Singapore chess team and a safe journey home.

Latest news: At 12.00 noon, Singapore evens the overall score (Malaysia 62-62 Singapore) in round 2 chess rapids with 6.5:3.5 over Malaysia at CitiTel Express Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

IM Jimmy Liew Plays For Team Malaysia!

IM Jimmy Liew took time off to play for team Malaysia on the Veteran Section during the Malaysia-Singapore Chess Challenge 2010. (We were informed that he was so keen to play for Malaysia, he was 'sms'ing En. Abdul Hamid for up-to-the-minute scores of the first day games while he was in Penang)  Overall score, Malaysia 58.5-55.5 Singapore (score at 11.00 am). Glad to see him playing for Malaysia! He won both his chess rapid games against his Singapore counterpart. Well done, Jimmy! Hope to see you play more often for Malaysia!
