Paragua, Kudrin Win MCC Ch 2010

9 November 2010, Kuala Lumpur – At the Marshall Chess Club in Greenwich Village, New York, the two-day Marshall Chess Club Championship 2010 was jointly won by GM Mark C Paragua and GM Sergey Kudrin with 7.5 points from 9 rounds of play. The winners take home USD 1,500.00. In third place was GM Alex Lenderman (pix left) with 7.0 points. Alex takes home USD 500.00. The tournament was held over the weekend, 6-7 November 2010.

There were 39 players that participated in this tournament.

Paragua vs Lenderman’s Game, Marshall Chess Club Championship 2010

5 November 2010, Kuala Lumpur – The Marshall Chess Club, is a well reknown chess club located in Greenwich Village in New York. Most of the great chess players have been known guests of the club and invited to play there. The late Bobby Fischer was one chess legend that had won against Donald Byrne in "The Game of the Century." And here, you'll find the board that Fischer played on in the 1965 Capablanca Memorial Tournament, a game that was conducted by telex because of Cold War tensions with Cuba.

Here is a game between GM Mark Paragua, Philippines against GM Alex Lenderman, US, where Lenderman is the leading favorite for the Marshall Chess Club Championship 2010 in the fifth round of the tournament. The Caro-Kann opening transpired during the game.

Paragua had developed a very menacing and advance chain of queenside pawns squeezing space away from black. It was just a matter of time that one of the three queenside pawns reaches its queening square and its game over. 1-0 to Paragua.

White develops a strong first mover advantage with 1.e4 and never let it go! Paragua was careful in not letting its pawn chains get disrupted by ensuring that some takes were done by pieces and not by pawns. Thus the strength of the chained pawns of the queenside were maintained and Lenderman had no answer to that!
