Results of the round 4 of the Kuala Lumpur Chess Open 2010 held at the 2nd Floor, Olympic Sports Hotel, Jalan Hang Jebat, Kuala Lumpur on the 16:00 hours, 8th April 2010.

GM Hou Yifan won her game on top board against fifth seed, GM Cao Sang, while third seed GM Luther Thomas, GER, lost his game to Vietnamese GM Nguyen Anh Dung. GM Rahman drew his game against IM Swapnil S Dhophade and GM Megaranto Susanto, INA, stops the giant-killer, FM Das Sayantan, IND, on board four. Top seed and favourite, GM Mchedishvili, GEO, outlasts Ronnie Lim, MAS, on board five (above picture). Meanwhile GM Iuldashev Saidali, UZB, draws his game against Praveen Kumar C on board six.

Semi-Final Pairings, Malaysian Women Masters 2010

As posted previously, three players easily managed to qualify to the semi-finals, which included Nurul Huda, Fong Mi Yen and Alia Anin Azwa bt Bakri.

The last slot of the semi-finals had to go through an additional hurdle of playing two rapid games tonight, 27th February 2010 at the DATCC to determine the fourth candidate to the semi-finals.

As the results show in the table summary below, Nur Nabila bt Azman Hisham prevailed by drawing the first rapid game and winning the second game against Khairunnisa Wahiduddin.

For the Semi-Finals tomorrow, 28th February 2010, first board will played by Nurul Huda against Nur Nabila Azman Hisham and on second board by Fong Mi Yen against Alia Anin Azwa bt Bakri.

For me and a few others, we will be playing in the University Malaya Team Open Tun Syed Zaharuddin at the Ninth College, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur held tomorrow, 28th February 2010.

M Raimi Wins The Rookie Tornado Chess Tournament

At the DATCC, the one day event for the DATCC Rookie Tornado Chess event was held and a healthy twenty-nine players participated in the tournament.

The event was held simultaneously as the Malaysian Women Masters 2010 event at the same venue. It provided ample publicity for the Women Masters while allowing others to engage in a parallel chess event at the venue.

Mohamad Raimi Rahim was declared the winner of the Rookie Tornado, while in second place is Ismail Hassim, and third Sunil Kali Vanam, an under-15 participant.

Quarter Final Round 1 Results, Malaysian Women Masters 2010

Here are the morning’s round 1 chess game results of the Malaysian Women Masters(MWM) 2010 Quarter Final Round:-

The top three seeds of the MWM 2010 that have won their first round game for the Quarter-Finals were Nurul Huda Wahiduddin, Fon Mi Yen and Khairunnisa’ Wahiduddin. The fourth seed, Alia Anin Azwa bt Bakri, drew her game against National Master Tan Li Ting.

To qualify to the next round, Semi-Finals, the players must ensure a definite win in their two rounds in the Quarter-Finals. If a draw persists, the arbiters will institute Armageddon procedures where players will first play two rapid games. If draw still exists, then this will be followed by two blitz games. If a draw continues to exists, then a further two blitz games to determine the winner of the pairing.

The second round of the MWM 2010 will start at 3.00 pm, 27th February 2010 at the DATCC, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur.

9th Round Pairings, 1st DATCC Individual Weekender FIDE Rated 2010, 1st February 2010

The ninth and final round of the 1st DATCC Individual Weekender FIDE Rated 2010 will be played tomorrow on 1st February 2010, a Federal Terrritories public holiday in Kuala Lumpur.

In the lead is now Abdul Aziz Abdul Shukor with 6.5 points and Soon Wai Cheong with 6.0 points. And in joint third are Nor Ilhamuddin Shaik Ali and Justin Ong Way with 5.5 points each.

7th Round Pairing, 6th Round Results, Thaipusam Rapid 2010, 31st January 2010

Here at the Excel Chess Academy, in the sixth round, Stonemaster stopped the juggernaut, Yeoh Li Tian, from steamrolling everyone in the Thaipusam Rapid 2010 on the second day of the tournament, 31st January 2010.

Muhd Fadli Zakaria jumps to second place with 4.5 points. However, Yeoh Li Tian is still the strong favourite and current leader at 5.0 points from six rounds.

Come catch the action at the Excel Chess Academy to watch Malaysia’s chess prodigy, Yeoh Li Tian, steam rolling in this Thaipusam Rapid 2010. Looks like his stint in China is paying dividends in his chess prowess and ability to win against stronger opponents than him.

4th Round Results and 5th Round Pairings, 1st DATCC Individual FIDE Rated Weekender 2010, 24th January 2010

Nik Ahmad Farouqi and Abdul Aziz Abdul Shukor lead after four rounds of play with 3.5 points each at the 1st DATCC Individual FIDE Rated Weekender 2010 held at the DATCC, 4th Floor, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur, 24th January 2010 (Sunday).

At 3.0 points each, are a bunch of four players namely, Abdullah Che Hassan, Fong Yit Ho, Justin Ong Way and Nor Ilhamuddin Shaik Ali

Nik Ahmad Farouqi beat Abdullah Che Hasan, Abdul Aziz won against Wong Jianwen, while Kamaluddin Yusof lost to Fong Yit Ho in the fourth round. Ilhamuddin won against Roshan Singh, Andrew Ooi drew against Lim Chong. Francois Wolfaardt won against youngster Amier Hamzah. Mat Zaki Yeop lost to Fong Yit San. Yat Guo Jie drew against Kabir Singh and Haslindah Ruslan drew against Frankie Lee.

Here are the fifth round pairings for the following weekend on Saturday, 30th January 2010, 9 am :-

Ian Udani Wins The Jeram – Kuala Selangor Rapid 2010, 24th Januari 2010

At the hugely successful Jeram – Kuala Selangor Rapid held on the 24th Januari 2010, Ian Udani wins the Jeram – Kuala Selangor Chess Rapid Open Category with 6.5 points out of a possible of seven points. Muhd Syakir Shazmeer won the Under-18 category and Muhd Fikri Farizal won the Under-12 category.

In the open category, Ong Thian Loon, won second , Lim Zhou Ren, third place and Jax Tham at fourth placing and Ismail Ahmad in fifth, all four players had 5.5 points but separated by differing tie-break points.

For the Open Category of the Jeram – Kuala Selangor Chess Rapid, a total of 78 people participated. Results are as shown below (click on image)

Muhd Syakir Shazmeer Azhar won the Under 18 category with 6.0 points in the 7 round swiss of the Jeram – Kuala Selangor Open 2010. His younger brother, Muhd Irfan Haqqim Azhar won second place with 5.5 points and WFM Nur Najihah bt Azman Hisham won third place with 5.5 points as well.

There were 33 participants took part in this under-18 category.

In the Under –12 Category, Muhd Fikri Farizal won with 6.5 points, Puteri Rifqah Fahada Azhar in second place with 6.0 points, Mohd Noor Azam in third place with 6.0 points.
There were 73 players who participated in the under-12 category.

Based on the results above, it is a hugely successful event with 184 people participating in all three categories of the Jeram-Kuala Selangor Chess Rapid on the 24th January 2010. Well done to the organisers! Congratulations to the winners and all participating players!

Justin Ong Wins The January 2010 First Saturday Series

Justin Ong is the Champion of the January 2010 First Saturday Classical Chess series with 5.0 points from six rounds of play on the final day of the two-day chess tournament at the Excel Chess Academy, Overseas Union Garden, Kuala Lumpur on the 3rd January 2010. Justin scored five wins and a single loss to his fellow colleague Lim Zhou Ren, who finishes in second place with 4.5 points. Lim scored 3 wins and three draws and technically speaking, undefeated over six rounds.

In third place is Abdullah Che Hassan with 4 wins, a draw and one loss to accumulate 4.5 points. While Nik Ahmad Farouqi, the Malaysian Inter-State Blitz Champion in Sarawak, was in fourth place with 3 wins, 2 draws and one loss to Justin Ong. And in fifth place is, surprise, surprise, Andrew Ooi, who plays for team DATCC in the current 2nd DATCC Kuala Lumpur Commercial and Recreational Chess League 2009/2010. For the record, Justin Ong, also plays for team DATCC.

Round 8 Results, Team AU Prevails In 2nd DATCC Chess League 2009, 29 December 2009

The eighth round of the 2nd DATCC Chess League 2009 took placed at the 4th Floor, Car Park, Wilayah Complex, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Kuala Lumpur in the evening of the 29th December 2009.

In the clash of titans, Team AU prevailed with a 2.5:1.5 win over Caviaga. Three boards ended with draws. It was the third board between Abdullah Che Hassan and Soon Wai Cheong, which decided the match. Abdullah lost to Soon Wai Cheong.

Two matches ended in identical draws of 2-2. These were between EON Bank Bhd and Nusa Mahkota, and between Price WaterHouse and 17 Chess Club.

Meanwhile X-factor had to struggle to get a 2.5:1.5 win over Storm Warriors. Mok Tze-Meng and Lim Zhou Ren made sure of their respective board wins for X-factor.

Bottom of the table match between DATCC and Tan & Tan was a let down as DATCC won three forfeit board wins against the non-attendance of Tan & Tan players. The lone third board play between two well-known chess arbiters, Najib Wahab (DATCC) and Abdul Hamid Majid (Tan & Tan) ended in a draw giving DATCC a 3.5:0.5 win over Tan & Tan.

The following two table summarises the team standings and team results after round 8 play on the 29th December 2009.

 

The last ninth round of the chess league will be played next Tuesday, 5th January 2010, 7 pm, DATCC, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur.

Nik Faruki wins Blitz, Malaysia Inter State Chess Championship 2009

The full results of the blitz tournament in conjunction with Malaysia Inter-State Chess Championship 2009 in Sibu, Sarawak just popped in into my email box, courtesy of En. Abdul Hamid Majid, arbiter of the event. Congratulations to the Blitz Champion, Nik Ahmad Faruki!

A total of 42 players participated in this blitz side show to the main team event of the Inter-State team chess championship.

Nik Faruki turn out tops with 8 points from 9 rounds of blitz chess game. In second place is Abdul Haq, third, Lim Zhou Ren, both with 7 points from 9 rounds. 4th-10th were as follows:- Kamaluddin Yusof, Abd Sahim, Leong Mun Wan, Fairin Zakaria, Ahmad Afiq, Ong Thian Loon and Tan Ken Wei.

Abdullah Che Hasan, Caviaga team player, was in 15th position with 5 points. Syed Iskandar, our northern region chess blogger, ended with 4 points in 27th position, Lim Kim Hwa, the organiser from Sarawak, with 3 points in 35th position.

Round 7 Results, 2nd DATCC Chess League 2009

Here are the official results of the 7th round of the 2nd DATCC Chess League 2009 held at the Dato’ Arthur Chess Centre, 4th Floor Car Park, Wilayah Complex, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Kuala Lumpur on the evening of the 22nd December 2009.

Team AU and Caviaga, both won their matches 3-0 and 3-1 respectively. Team AU is still in the lead of the chess league. Caviaga had Abdullah on fourth board while the top guns, IM Lim Yee Weng, Ian Udani and NM Edward Lee played the top three boards in that order.

The only major difference this week is the rise of Storm Warriors to 6th postiton from 7th after they had a draw 2-2 with EON Bank Bhd. They had two draws and one board win. Close call for Storm Warriors.

Meanwhile X-factor won their game against Tan&Tan 3.5:0.5 and Price Waterhouse gunned down DATCC in a close 2.5:1.5. DATCC had the services of three young, up-and-coming players, namely, Justin Ong Way, Tan Jun Feng and Yat Guo Jie in this week’s lineup. Haslindah played 2nd board as captain of the DATCC team.

Final Round Enter Play-Offs! Yeap Eng Chiam Crowned NJM!

The final round of the 2nd National Junior Chess Championship 2009 boys’ category had to be pushed into the play-offs as the top two boards ended with draws. This resulted in four players with the same 7.0 points for Sumant, Yeap, Justin and Evan.

The panel of arbiters of the event decided to have a play-off for the four players that finished with 7.0 points, so that a clear winner can be decided and to earn the title of the National Junior Master (NJM).
