Upcoming Chess Camps/Tournaments In Malaysia

3 June 2011, Kuala Lumpur – Here are a few upcoming chess camps and chess tournaments in and around Kuala Lumpur and in Perak as reported in The Star Portal by SS Quah.
Chess camp #1: Creative Chess Enterprise will hold a two-day chess camp at Sekolah Sri Bestari in Bandar Sri Damansara, KL, next Monday and Tuesday. Entry fees: RM140 (elementary level), RM160 (players with national chess ratings below 1,200 points) and RM180 (players with national rating above 1,200 points). Chess camp #2: There will be a two-day Kids For Chess camp at Pandan Lake Club in Pandan Perdana, KL, next Tuesday and Wednesday. Entry fees: RM90 (player of any level). Contact Kids For Chess (03-9131 6474 / 016-212 3578 / http://www.kids4 chess.com).
Perak grand prix: Perak International Chess Association will stage the fourth leg of this year’s Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng chess grand prix tournament at the Grand Kampar Hotel on June 19. This leg will be contested over seven rounds with a 25-minute time control. The grand final will be played in Ipoh on July 10. Other than cash prizes, points will be awarded to the top 10 winners of each leg, and the points will be accumulated till the final leg. Entry fees for the Kampar tournament: RM25 (open section), RM15 (under 16), RM10 (under 12). For PICA members and Perak residents: RM20 (open), RM10 (under 16). Closing date for entries: June 16. SJKC Jalan Davidson open: Cheras Chess Academy and Percawi will assist SJK(C) Jalan Davidson in KL in staging an open tournament at the school hall on June 19. MBSSKL open: Methodist Boys Secondary School in KL will hold its sixth open tounament at their school on July 23. Six rounds, 25 minutes per game. Entry fees: RM5 (MBSSKL students) and RM15 (others). Singapore will also be organizing the annual Singapore International Chess Festival during the Christmas Holidays starting from 26th December 2010 until 30th December followed by the Annual Malaysian-Singapore match to be played on 31st December 2010 and 1st January 2011. Penang Chess League
The annual Penang Chess League takes place this weekend at the SJK Cina Kheng Thean in Jalan Van Praagh, George Town. Seven rounds, one-hour time control games. The event is open to teams from the public sector, business community, factories, institutions of learning and registered societies and clubs. Penang open
The Penang Chess Association (PCA) will organise the Penang Heritage City international open chess championship at the Penang City Hall from Dec 8-12. This will be a Fide-rated event with a RM5,000 first prize. Nine rounds, full time control games. Entry fees for the open tournament are RM50 (Fide-rated player), RM150 (PCA members) and RM180 (others), while for the challengers section, they are RM30 (Fide-rated player), RM50 (PCA member) and RM80 (others). Upcoming Chess Tournaments

12 November 2010, Kuala Lumpur – For those looking for chess tournaments in Malaysia, here are a few choices to choose from.

SJKC Jln Davidson open
SJK Cina Jalan Davidson in Kuala Lumpur will organise an open chess tournament for under-16 players at the school this Sunday. Six rounds, 30-minute time control games. FIDE-rated tournament
The Cheras Chess Academy will hold a Fide-rated open tournament, limited to players with Fide ratings of 1950 and below, at Pusat Kecemerlangan Sukan Cochrane in Jalan Cochrane, Kuala Lumpur, from Nov 20-24. Perak closed
The Perak International Chess Association together with the Majlis Sukan Negri Perak and KLK Bhd will jointly organise the Perak closed chess championship at the Dewan MSN in Ipoh from Nov 27-28. Chess camp
A fun and informative Kids For Chess camp for beginners, intermediate-level and aspiring tournament players will be held at the Pandan Lake Club in Pandan Perdana, Kuala Lumpur, from Dec 1-2. Penang Chess League

Upcoming Chess Tournaments!

20 August 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Here are three upcoming chess events in Malaysia for chess players to consider.

Malaysia Chess Festival

Here is a summary of all the events at this year’s Malaysia Chess Festival. All games will be played at the Cititel MidValley ballroom:

> Datuk Arthur Tan Malaysia open: FIDE-titled event, nine rounds, Sept 1-13, US$4,000 first prize, entry fees range from US$50 to US$200 depending on player’s rating;

> AmBank Malaysia chess challenge: FIDE-rated event but player’s rating not to exceed 2200 points, nine rounds, Sept 1-13, RM2,000 first prize, entry fees range from RM75 to RM150 depending on player’s rating, 20% discount for players below 16;

> Merdeka national age group rapid open: seven rounds, Sept 5, medals as prizes, RM25 entry fee;

> Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng international seniors open: Fide-rated event, nine rounds, Sept 1-13, RM4,000 first prize, entry fees range from RM100 to RM400 depending on player’s rating;

> Merdeka individual rapid open: seven rounds, Aug 28, RM1,000 first prize, entry fees are RM30 (adults) and RM20 (under-16 players);

> Astro Merdeka team rapid open: nine rounds, Aug 29-31, RM5,000 first prize, entry fees range from RM150 to RM375 depending on number of players in the team;

Penang rapid chess

The Penang Chess Association (PCA) is holding a rapid chess tournament on Aug 22 as a warm-up event for players before they participate in the Malaysia Chess Festival.

Entry fees are RM10 for PCA members and RM25 for non-members.

UTP rapid chess

As part of Universiti Teknologi Petronas’ convocation programme this year, there will be a national rapid chess open tournament at the main hall of the university’s campus in Tronoh, Perak, from Oct 9-10.

The Malaysian Chess Federation and the Perak International Chess Association are the co-organisers with the university.

Entry fees are RM35 for adults and players below 18, RM30 for players below 16 and RM25 for players below 12.
