Dimakiling Takes Over Lead In Penang Open 2011

8 December 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the 3rd Penang Heritage City International Chess Open 2011 in Penang, IM Dimakiling Oliver of Philippines takes over leadership by winning his round 6 encounter with IM Nguyen Van Huy of Vietnam on top board. Dimakiling now has scored 5.5 points  and is sole leader.

IM Mas Hafizulhelmi of Malaysia, has now climbed into the top 10 of the Penang Open with a win against Looi Xin Hao on the fifth board with a score of 4.5 points from six rounds of play.

Tomorrow, 9 December 2011, IM Mas will meet defending champion, IM Dimakiling Oliver of PHI on top board during the 7th round of play. Best of luck to IM Mas in his endeavours!

6 Dec 2011, Kuala Lumpur – The Penang City Open 2011 will begin today. 11 countries are participating with 74 players playing in the Open category. Among the countries playing include Australia, France, England, India, USA, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia, the host country. There are 12 titled players, 7 are International Masters, 3 FIDE-Master and 2 WFM. IM Dimakiling Oliver of the Philippines is the defending champion and is playing. IM Mas Hafizulhelmi of Malaysia, Malaysia's number one chess player, is participating in this year's Penang Open 2011.

3rd October 2011, Kuala Lumpur – The Penang Chess Association (PCA) is organising the 3rd Penang Heritage City International Chess Open 2011 from 5th-10th December 2011 to be held at Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel, Pulau Pinang. Closing Date is on the 1st December 2011 and entry fees varies according to FIDE Rating as shown in the table below.

It will be a 9 round Swiss System for the Open and Challenger’s categories. Time control is 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move.
