2 September 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Last Tuesday, 31st Ogos 2010, on Malaysia’s Independence Day was held the closing and prize-giving ceremony for the ASTRO Merdeka Individual and Team events.

31 August 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Here are a few random pictures over the last few days of chess action in the CitiTel Ballroom of the CitiTel Mid Valley Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
Seen here include the ASTRO Ladies team, GM Marat, WGM Son Asia, IM Mas in the Individual Rapid, GM Saidali, GM Gerhard (Ger) and others.
29 August 2010, Kuala Lumpur – The Final Ranking table that has just been received from the arbiter of the event, Najib Wahab, by email early this morning for the information of participating players and their prize money won indicated in the right hand side of the table.

28 August 2010, Kuala Lumpur – The prize giving ceremony for the ASTRO Merdeka Individual Rapid was announced to be postponed to the joint prize ceremony for the Merdeka Team event as the last round (7th round) of the Individual Rapid had started 5 minutes past 6 pm.
As such, the organisers had anticipated due to the fasting month, muslim players and officials would have to break their fast at about 7.20 pm or so and not enough time for the officials to finalise the Final Ranking for the day’s Individual Rapid chess event.

28 August 2010, Kuala Lumpur – At the end of the gruelling seven round Swiss rapids, GM Iuldachev Saidali of Uzbekistan won the individual rapids with 6.5 points. In second place was GM Schebler Gerhard of Germany with 6 points, and in third place was FM Nicholas Chan of Malaysia with 6 pts. In fourth position was Vakhidov Jahongir of Uzbekistan with 6 pts, too!

A total of 107 players registered and participated today for the Merdeka Individual Rapid, a number beyond the organisers’ imagination.
28 August 2010, Kuala Lumpur – In the earlier rounds, Irfan Haqqim Azhar created an upset by drawing with GM Saidali on 2nd board of the first round.
