Azwa Anin Bakri Wins MWM Final 2010!

BREAKING NEWS !!
NWM Alia Azwa Anin Bakri beat WCM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham 2.5 - 1.5 on the second day of the finals of the Malaysian Woman Masters 2010 to emerge as Champion. She won Games 1 & 4, drew game 2 and lost game 3.

As posted previously, three players easily managed to qualify to the semi-finals, which included Nurul Huda, Fong Mi Yen and Alia Anin Azwa bt Bakri.

The last slot of the semi-finals had to go through an additional hurdle of playing two rapid games tonight, 27th February 2010 at the DATCC to determine the fourth candidate to the semi-finals.

As the results show in the table summary below, Nur Nabila bt Azman Hisham prevailed by drawing the first rapid game and winning the second game against Khairunnisa Wahiduddin.

For the Semi-Finals tomorrow, 28th February 2010, first board will played by Nurul Huda against Nur Nabila Azman Hisham and on second board by Fong Mi Yen against Alia Anin Azwa bt Bakri.

For me and a few others, we will be playing in the University Malaya Team Open Tun Syed Zaharuddin at the Ninth College, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur held tomorrow, 28th February 2010.

Playoff Between Nur Nabila-Khairunissa

At the Malaysian Women Masters 2010, three players have qualified to the Semi-Finals. The players are Nurul Huda, Fong Mi Yen and Alia Anin Azwa Bakri.

At the moment of blogging, there is an armageddon playoff for the final fourth slot of the Semi-Finals between Nur Nabila-Khairunissa.

Quarter Final Round 1 Results, Malaysian Women Masters 2010

Here are the morning’s round 1 chess game results of the Malaysian Women Masters(MWM) 2010 Quarter Final Round:-

The top three seeds of the MWM 2010 that have won their first round game for the Quarter-Finals were Nurul Huda Wahiduddin, Fon Mi Yen and Khairunnisa’ Wahiduddin. The fourth seed, Alia Anin Azwa bt Bakri, drew her game against National Master Tan Li Ting.

To qualify to the next round, Semi-Finals, the players must ensure a definite win in their two rounds in the Quarter-Finals. If a draw persists, the arbiters will institute Armageddon procedures where players will first play two rapid games. If draw still exists, then this will be followed by two blitz games. If a draw continues to exists, then a further two blitz games to determine the winner of the pairing.

The second round of the MWM 2010 will start at 3.00 pm, 27th February 2010 at the DATCC, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur.

Quarter Final Pairings, National Women Masters 2010

Here are the latest quarter final pairings for the Malaysian Women Masters 2010 being held at the Dato’ Arthur Tan Chess Centre, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur today, 27th February 2010.

8 players have been eliminated in the first round held yesterday. The players affected were Haslindah bt Roslan, Latifah Syamimi bt Mohd Latib, Hong Wee Ni Winnie, Latifah Kaisiyah bt Mohd Latif, Renitha Narayanan, Fairuz Hamzah bt Ahmad Fuad, Hoh Tjin Li and Nur Najihah bt Azman Hisham. Some armageddon games were held to separate the last eight winners late yesterday afternoon and early evening.

Malaysian Women Chess Masters 2010 Begins!

Today, 26th February 2010, starts the series of the Malaysian Women Masters 2010 and will go on till 2nd March 2010. Sixteen specially handpicked female chess candidates had been carefully selected based on a strict regime of selection criteria set by the Malaysian Chess Federation.

Two rounds of games had been played today at the Dato’ Arthur Tan Chess Centre located at the Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur and a knock-out system will take place.

Tomorrow eight players, who have got through the first knock-out round, will play two more rounds of classical chess and on Sunday, 28th February 2010, four winning players will get to play two rounds to determine the final two contestants.

The winner will get to represent Malaysia to the Chess Olympiad to be held in Siberia, Moscow during the later part of this year, 2010.

UpComing Weekend Chess Activities, 26-28 Feb 2010

This week is a short week as the Maulidur Rasul is a public holiday in Malaysia which falls on 26th February 2010, Friday. For chess lovers and enthusiasts, it will be a busy weekend. Here is what we have for chess activities :-

First off is the Excel Chess Academy’s Chinese New Year Rapids to be held on two-days from 26-27th February 2010 with a 10 rounds Swiss chess rapids. Each player will have 20 minutes plus 30 second increment for each round.

Second, Insofar Invitational FIDE Rated Chess Tournament which has been on-going since 15th January 2010 and the fourth round will be held on Friday night at the 3rd Floor, PKNS Building, Shah Alam, starts at 7.45 pm. Time control is 90 minutes plus 30 second increment (Classical Chess).

Third, MCF is organising the 1st Malaysian Women Masters 2010 to be held at the DATCC from 26th February – 2nd March 2010. 16 players have been confirmed with one reserve player on stand-by.

Fourth, DATCC is organising the DATCC Rookie Tornado Chess Tournament this Saturday, 27th February 2010 at the Dato’ Arthur Tan Chess Centre, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur. This is for those players with ratings of below 1400 only.

Fifth, University of Malaya is organising the Tun Syed Zahiruddin Team Chess Open 2010 on Sunday, 28th February 2010 at the Ninth College, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. This is an annual event organised by the University of Malaya.

Sixth, Seremban Parade is hosting the Seremban Parade Chess Championship 2010 on the 27-28th February 2010, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

Update on Malaysian Women Masters 2010

Kelab Catur Setia Kuantan reported that they have received confirmation on the Malaysian Women Masters 2010 event.

There will be 8 players selected for this event, and so far only 6 players have verbally confirmed their participation. The players selected are as follows:-
1. NWM Roslina Marmono - (Top 4 in FIDE list)
2. NWM Alia Anin Azwa Bakri - (National Champion 2008 / Top 4 FIDE list)
3. NWM Tan Li Ting - (National Champion 2009)
4. Renitha Narayanan - (Top 2 National Closed 2009)
5. WFM Nur Najiha Azman Hisham - (National Junior Champ 2009)
6. WCM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham - (National Junior Champ 2008)

Two more players have yet to make their confirmation to enter, and one of the two remaining selected candidate player is the President's choice. It is going to be a round robin event and not a knock-out event like the mens'.

Date of the event is slated for the 26th Feb 2010 - 28th Feb 2010 and will continue on the 6th March 2010 - 7th March 2010 (the final date confirmation will be announced later by MCF).

Venue for the event will be held at the DATCC Chess Centre in Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur.

Important note : The top four players from this Malaysian Women Masters 2010 will be used as a criteria for selection to Olympiad 2010 that will be held in Khanty-Mansiyk, Russia.

Malaysian Women Masters 2010

The Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) is organising a chess event for women , The Malaysian women masters 2010 to be played at DATCC from February 26 to March 02 2009.

The concept of the tournament is similar to Malaysian Masters for the men, which was recently concluded, two weeks back, with IM Mas Hafizulhelmi being crowned the new Malaysian Masters 2009 Champion.
