29 August 2011, Kuala Lumpur – Team Chesskidz of Singapore won the ASTRO Merdeka Team Open Rapid 2011 with 26.5 points. Second place went to PNOY Expats with 26 points. Third place was won by Chesskidz Shock Troopers with 25.5 points.

With the completion of the 31st ASTRO Merdeka Team Rapid Open 2011, the Malaysian Chess Festival 2011 comes to a close.

Next up is the Raja Nazrin Shah Masters and International Open 2011 (originally Kuala Lumpur Open) to be held 4-10 September 2011 at Swiss Garden Hotel & Residence, Kuala Lumpur.

Team Melaka

28 August 2011, Kuala Lumpur - Team Melaka (Azirul) with IM Giam (centre). Team Melaka scored 9 pts after five rounds during the Merdeka Team Rapid yesterday. Another four rounds will be played today to complete the 9 rounds of Swiss System.

Arbiters were strict on placement of team players. Melaka were penalized due to this infringement.

Astro Ladies

27 August 2011, Kuala Lumpur – Roslina Marmono and Tan Li Ting representing Astro Ladies chess team in the Merdeka Team Rapid Open 2011 during the third round. The top five board teams play in a separate more exclusive and comfortable room.
