Dzhumaev Marat Declared Champion Of Brunei Campomanes Memorial 2012

12 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Brunei, GM Dzhumaev Marat is declared the champion of the Brunei Campomanes Memorial Grandmaster Open 2012 with a final round win over FM Pitra Andika. GM Marat scored 6.5 points. Second, IM Vakhidov Jakhongir with 6.5 points, too and third, FM Pitra Andika, 6.5 points.

Yeoh Li Tian scored a strong finishing win against Malaysia’s IM Mas Hafizulhelmi, during the final 9th round, giving the young Malaysian lad a 6.0/9.0 score. The question is whether this is a good score for an IM norm for Yeoh Li Tian of Malaysia. Tournament top seed, GM Barbosa Oliver finished in 11th position with a mediocre 5.5 points.

Brunei Campomanes 2012 – Surprise Losses!

8 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Brunei, the top seed GM Barbosa Oliver surprisingly suffered defeat to one IM Sharma Dinesh on top board of the second round of the Brunei Campomanes Memorial Chess 2012.

Meanwhile IM Mas Hafizulhelmi managed to achieve a draw against GM Dao Thien Hai, the second seed on second board of round 2. Giant killer Fong Yit Ho suffered a loss at the hands of the young IM Vakhidov Jakhongir. Yeoh Li Tian and Zulkipli Zaidan also went the same way by losing their round 2 games.

Brunei Campomanes Memorial Begins!

8 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur - In Brunei, the Campomanes Memorial has begun at the Orchid Garden Hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan with two rounds of classical chess today.

The usual favorites won their first round game including IM MAS, Yeoh Li Tian and Zulkipli Zaidan, all from Malaysia. The biggest upset win was by Fong Yit Ho of Malaysia over GM Richard Bitoon of Phillipines in round one.

Tournament top seed is GM Barbosa Oliver of the Phillippines also won his first. A total of 40 players are participating in this Brunei edition of the Campomsnes Memorial and quite a few Filipinos are participating. Peter Long of Malaysia is chief arbiter.
