8 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur - In Brunei, the Campomanes Memorial has begun at the Orchid Garden Hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan with two rounds of classical chess today.
The usual favorites won their first round game including IM MAS, Yeoh Li Tian and Zulkipli Zaidan, all from Malaysia. The biggest upset win was by Fong Yit Ho of Malaysia over GM Richard Bitoon of Phillipines in round one.
Tournament top seed is GM Barbosa Oliver of the Phillippines also won his first. A total of 40 players are participating in this Brunei edition of the Campomsnes Memorial and quite a few Filipinos are participating. Peter Long of Malaysia is chief arbiter.
