Anand shines in FIDE Candidates 2014

16th March 2014, Kuala Lumpur – Today is a rest day in Khanty Mansiysk Russia for the FIDE Candidates Championship 2014. Vishy Anand won his third round game when he won with black against Mamedyarov Shakhriya of Azebaijan yesterday. Anand is leading with 2.5 points after round 3.

The official website reported that the former World Champion Viswanathan Anand moved into sole lead after defeating Shakhriyar Mamedyarov in round 3 of Candidates Tournament in Khanty-Mansiysk.

With the other three games, Dmitry Andreikin – Sergey Karjakin, Veselin Topalov – Levon Aronian and Peter Svidler – Vladimir Kramnik, being drawn, Anand is alone on the top of the crosstable with 2,5 points.

Svidler and Kramnik are sharing the second place with 2 points each. Topalov and Aronian are on 1,5 points, while Andreikin and Karjakin are on 1 point each. Mamedyarov remained on 0,5 points.

Results of early rounds, FIDE World Candidates 2014, Russia

15th March 2014, Kuala Lumpur – Here are the results of the first two rounds of the Candidates Chess Championship 2014 in Khanty Mansiysk Russia. In round 2, Anand played the Slav variation against another ex-world champion, Topalov which ended in a dead draw with two kings on the board. In round two, three boards gave decisive wins to Kramnik, Svidler and Aronian. Three players are now with 1.5 points.

The candidates is a 14 round robin tournament, where the eight players will meet each other twice with opposite colours. The winner will challenge the new reigning World Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen of Norway.
