14th July 2014, Kuala Lumpur - Germany emerged as the new soccer World Cup Champions for the next four years after defeating Argentina 1-0 in extra time in Maracana, Brazil.
The winning goal was scored by Mario Goetze. This fourth win for Germany but the first as a united Germany. As a result, Argentina finished second while Lionel Messi of Argentina won the best player of the World Cup tournament.
Meanwhile Holland finished in third as they thrashed Brazil 3-0 a day earlier. Brazil finished in fourth.
Top scorer award went to James Rodriguez of Colombia with 6 goals while best goalkeeper award went to Manuel Neuer of Germany. Best Fairplay team went to Colombia. Young player of the tournament went to Paul Pogba of France.
