Golden Classic in Bergamo, Italy

GOLDEN CLASSIC STARTING WITH FIREWORKS

Bergamo, July 12 2014 – Last night, during the open ceremony hosted in the Hotel San Marco in Bergamo, the seven players of the ACP Golden Classic performed the drawing of lots to decide the pairings in presence of International arbiter Francesco De Sio. The tournament will take place in Auditorium of Piazza della Libertà in Bergamo from Saturday, July 12 till Sunday, July 20. The field promises an amazing fight, starring five international top level players of and two of the best Italian players.

There will be fireworks right from the very first round, with Hungary's Zoltan Almasi playing Russia's Ian Nepomniachtchi, Filipino Wesley So facing Israeli Emil Sutovsky and Georgian Baadur Jobava against Italian Sabino Brunello. Italy's Daniele Vocaturo received the BYE for the first round, which means that he will not play. However, he will join International Master Alessio Valsecchi, from Bergamo, in the commentary room. Live commentary and analysis will be provided on the official website (http://acpgoldenclassic.com), where the visitors are invited to chat about the games and to ask questions to the commentators. Today the round starts at 2 a.m. and President of Italian Chess Federation, Gianpietro Pagnoncelli, will play the first symbolic move on the first board.

At the end of each round, the players will meet in the Hotel San Marco where a press conference will be held to share their commentary and thoughts about the games of the day and will answer to journalists' questions.

The access to the playing venue is free.
