GM Ziaur Wins The 12th CAS-OCTAGON 2nd Quarter Allegro 2010

13 June 2010, Kuala Lumpur – GM Ziaur Rahman (pix left) won today’s 12th CAS-OCTAGON Second Quarter Allegro 2010 held at the DATCC, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur. GM Ziaur won 7 full points from 7 rounds of play, beating 50 other participating players in the tournament.

Ahmad Shafruddin Arshad, Presiden of Chess Association of Selangor(CAS) gave away the prizes to the 25 winners of the event. Ahmad also announced that the long running Selangor Open will continue to run its long tradition next year as the committee was working on getting continued sponsorship for the major chess event. Partial sponsorship has been secured thus far.

All the prize winners had a photo session (shown below) at the end of the closing ceremony together with organising committee of the Chess Association of Selangor.

Here is the full ranking results (pix left) and the prize winners are noted on the right most column of the picture. Sorry for the poor quality of the picture results. That is what I have at the moment.

CM Fadli was in tenth position. Cheah Cheok Fung  of Price Waterhouse Coopers finished in second place behind GM Ziaur. Shum seated on the floor (1st left) was the winner of the Under-12 category. Yours truly pipped Lim Chong by a half point in tie break points to win the Veterans’ Category. The four seated in the above picture are all committee members of CAS.

11 June 2010, Kuala Lumpur – The Chess Association of Selangor is organising the weekend’s 12th CAS-Octagon second quarter Allegro Chess competition on the 13th June 2010, Sunday at the DATCC, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur.

On its official blog it has published a list of 34 pre-registered players for the tournament which includes GM Ziaur Rahman, his wife, Mdm Sultana Tashmin and son, Taksin Ziaur. Here’s your chance to play against a Grandmaster of chess. Why not join in?

12th CAS – OCTAGON, 2nd Q Allegro Championship 2010

24 May 2010, Kuala Lumpur – The Second Quarter Allegro Chess Championship 2010 is coming this 13th June 2010. Here is the flyer again from Mr. Lim Tse Pin, secretary of Chess Assoc of Selangor. The original date was 20th June 2010 and the new date is now 13th June 2010. So take note of the date change!

Here is a new chess rapid tournament from Chess Association of Selangor (CAS) which will be held on the 20th June 2010(change of date). Due to the heavily booked chess calendar since the beginning of 2010, June is the earliest that CAS can conduct this Allegro event. So book your calendar for this much-awaited chess event from CAS.
