Terdapat lima peserta Kejohanan Catur Rapid Deepavali 2009 yang telah terpilih untuk mewakili Negara di kejohanan di luar Negara Turki. Bagi kejohanan catur di Asean Primary School Sports Olympiad di Jakarta, Indonesia dari 3-9 November 2009, dua pemain yang terpilih ialah adik Muhd Irfan dan WCM Nur Nabila.

Muhd Nabil wins the two-day Deepavali Rapid Chess 2009 held at the Excel Chess Academy, Overseas Union Garden, Kuala Lumpur. Muhd Nabil maintained his winning ways by beating Muhd Fadli Zakaria (alias Stonemaster) in the final and penultimate 10th round of the Deepavali Rapid Chess 2009.

Second, was won by Lim Zhuo Ren with 8.0 points. In third place, Muhd Syakir Shazmeer with 7.5 points while Mohd Fadli Zakaria (alias Stonemaster) and Jax Tham, both with 7.0 points, were placed fourth and fifth placings respectively.
Well done everyone! Most of the players had fun and enjoyed their games. It is a great place to have chess games and tournaments. See you all again in future tournaments in Lembah Kelang!
The second day of the Deepavali Rapid Chess 2009 ended with Muhd Nabil proclaimed as the Champion of the tournament held over two days and played over 10 rounds at the Excel Chess Academy.

At the Excel Chess Academy, on its second day of tournament play of the Deepavali Rapid Chess 2009, a battle for the top spot is brewing into a storm. The current batch of leaders after round 8 are Muhd Syakir Shazmeer, Mohd Fadli Zakaria and Muhd Nabil, all with 6.5 points.
Lim Zhuo Ren lost in the previous round to Stonemaster and with it a valuable point.
The champion for this tournament is still wide open with two rounds of play.
The following two tables are the ranking of players after round 8 and the second table, the pairings of players for round 9 of the Deepavali Chess Rapid 2009.

After the 6th Round of the Deepavali Chess Rapid (10.20.30) 2009 held at Excel Chess Academy, OUG, Kuala Lumpur on the 17th October 2009, the up-and-coming youngster, Lim Zhuo Ren, the second seeded, is now clear leader at 6.0 full points.
Closely following behind him is Mark Siew with 5.0 points. A pack of six players with 4.5 points is within firing distance of the two front runners. This chasing pack includes Muhd Syakir Shazmeer, Mohd Fadli Zakaria (alias Stonemaster), Muhd Nabil, Muhd Irfan Haqqim, Jeff Tan Jun Feng, and WFM Nur Najiha.
The top seed of the tournament Abdullah Che Hassan is way back at no. 9 with 4.0 points bunched together with Jax Tham, WCM Nur Nabila, Muhd Aziz Farhan, Chong Kwai Kun and Mohamed Ismail.
With four more rounds of play, the field is still quite open. Who knows? A new up-and-coming player might just be the new star of this year's Deepavali Rapid Chess.

On the first day of the Deepavali Rapid Chess (10.20.30) 2009 held at Excel Chess Academy, Overseas Union Garden, Kuala Lumpur on 17th-18th October 2009. After the 5th Round, Lim Zhou Ren is the clear leader with 5.0 full points from five rounds of play.
Some of the seeds have taken a tumble as Abdullah Che Hassan has stumbled in the 4th round while Jax Tham, the veteran chess player, took a beating at the hands of a youngster named Irfan.
The situation room is heating up in the Deepavali Rapid Chess and will continue tomorrow over four more rounds of intense play jostling to take the lead at the Deepavali Rapid Chess 2009.
Following discussion and feedback from all players, the organisers of the event has decided to extend today's play to six rounds and leave the remaining four rounds of play for tomorrow, 18th October 2009.
The following tables will provide:
a. the ranking of players after the 5th round of play; and,
b. the second table, the pairings of the sixth round of play.
