Daniel Iskandar Wins The 2nd Leg, Segamat Grand Prix 2010

Here is a picture message from M Zullghafari with the full final results of the 2nd Leg of the SMK Kenangan Segamat Chess Grand Prix 2010 held in Segamat over two days, 3rd-4th April 2010.

Daniel Iskandar come out tops with 6.0 points from seven rounds of rapid play. Daniel turned giant killer when he disposed of local favourite, Abdullah Che Hassan in the earlier rounds.

Abdullah and Muhd Aziz Farhan b Noor Akbar ended as joint second winners with the same 5.5 points. Meanwhile four players ended up in joint fourth placing with 5.0 points. These players include See Kai Loong, Kamaluddin Yusof, Khalid Musa, See Kai Jun and Tee Han Kang.

Segamat Grand Prix 2010

At Segamat, the 2nd Leg of the SMK Kenangan Segamat Grand Prix Chess 2010 is ongoing and during the fifth round, Daniel Iskandar is playing See Kai Loong on top board.

Yesterday, Daniel Iskandar, son of the chess organiser of Segamat GP, beat the local favourite, Abdullah Che Hassan.

Latest News: Ian Udani withdraws from 2nd Leg of Segamat Chess GP this coming weekend, 3rd-4th April 2010 in order to rest and stay fresh for next week’s Kuala Lumpur Open beginning 6th April 2010.

Weekend Chess Activities, 3-4th April 2010

This coming weekend there will be a few chess tournaments around for you to choose from. However, Excel Chess Academy has delayed its First Saturday Classical Chess tournament to 10-11 April 2010. My previous post on this is related or click here.

Here are the three tournaments that you may choose from:-

a. Klang Parade Chess Championships, 3-4 April 2010. Venue Klang Parade. Click here for details. This tournament uses a rapid time control of 20-30 minutes per player per round. If you prefer to be close to a shopping mall, then this is for you, the shopper in mind.

b. KL Grand Prix 2010, Card Room of the Royal Selangor Club at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. Third Leg: 3-4 April 2010. Click here for details. If you prefer serene surroundings and wonderful facilities and a time control of 45 minutes per player per round, this is the one for you! Car parking facility is just next door, the Dataran Merdeka.

c. Kenangan GrandPrix Chess, Segamat, Johor. 3-4th April 2010, Venue Hall of SMK Seri Kenangan, Segamat. Click here for details. If you are from Johor or near down south or from Pahang, you might consider this tournament for yourself. Time control is 45 minutes, similar to KL Grand Prix 2010. By the way, this is the second leg of the Segamat Grand Prix chess.

For me, I will be away to Terengganu attending to a family wedding invite. Have a wonderful weekend playing chess.

Abdullah Che Hassan Wins The First Leg, Segamat GP Chess Rapids 2010

In Segamat, Abdullah Che Hassan thwarted Abdul Khalid Musa’s attempt to win the first leg. Abdullah won with 6.0 points while Abdul Khalid Musa came in as first runners-up with 5.5 points. See Kai Loong and Kamaluddin Yusof ended as joint third with 5.0 points each.

After KLCA’s Grand Prix in Kuala Lumpur, we now have a new chess grand prix in Segamat, Johor. The chess grandprix phenomena is spreading like wild fire in Malaysia! Johor on fire with chess!

SMK Seri Kenangan Rapid Chess Grand Prix @ SMK Seri Kenangan, Segamat, Johor

1. Organisers and Sponsors

Organised by MSSKL Event Management (MSSKLEM) &  & SMK Seri Kenangan, Segamat, Johor.

2. Format, Time Control & System

There will be two sections – Open, Junior (U-18) & Kids (U-12), played using the Swiss System, and the rate of play will be 45 minutes for the whole game.
There will be 4 legs, played monthly, followed by the grand finals:
First Leg: 6-7 March 2010
Second leg: 3-4 April 2010
Third Leg: 8-9 May 2010
Grand Finals: 3-4 July 2010
Points (actual scores) accumulated from each leg will be used as the basis for qualifying for the Grand Finals, where the top 10 in each section will be given free entry and the top 25 overall finishers* in each section will be given priority in participation.
*The organizers reserves discretion in modifying the number of qualifiers.
3. Schedule

Played on weekends: On Saturdays from 1 to 5:30 p.m., and on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Kids (U-12):
1^st Prize – RM150; 2^nd – RM75; 3^rd – RM50; 4^th to 5^th – RM25 each

Grand Finals:
