Morazo, Darban Leads In GACC

19 December 2010, Kuala Lumpur – At the University Malaya, the Grand Asian Chess Championship (GACC) Inter-Varsity Chess is ongoing and today two rounds will be played. Some background information on this long-running chess tournament which is the 14th in its series.

INTRODUCTION
GACC International Inter-Varsity Chess Championship is a chess tournament organised by Tuanku Bahiyah Residential College (formerly known as Second Residential College), University of Malaya. It is open to undergraduates from all over the globe and it is held in cooperation with the Rakan Muda programme and under the auspices of Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF). Formerly, this event was known as The Grand Asian Chess Challenge (GACC) and is open only to the Asian region. After receiving positive responses from the participants since it was first held, it has become an international event

OBJECTIVES
- To enhance the standard of chess among the participants from various university.
- To foster closer tie amongst participants and university around the world.
- To promote the game of chess so as to become one of the hobbies among undergraduates around the world especially undergraduates of University of Malaya.
- To expose youth of today to prejects of such magnitudes in the spirit ofsportsmanship.
- To promote Malaysian’s culture to public in line of making Malaysia a popular tourist attraction.

Round 7:
Today, the GACC chess tournament continues with IM Darban Morteza of Iran and Morazo John Ranel of the Philippines meeting on top board this morning while GM Bagheri of Iran meets GM Maletin of Russia on board 2.

Meanwhile in the women’s section of GACC, WIM Kharashuta of Russia meets WGM Nebolsina Vera  (pix 2) of Russia on top board in round 7 this morning.
