8 December 2010, Kuala Lumpur – There were some surprise wins and five draws in the second round, 1st game in the Women’s World Chess Championship 2010 in Turkey. Defending champion, GM Kosteniuk had a draw against IM Khukhashvili, so did GM Lahno (pix left) of Ukraine against GM Hoang of Hungary.
Elisabeth Paehtz had a surprised win with black against Cmilyte of Lithuania. GM Koneru of INDIA had a good first game against IM Houska Jovanka, her first real game of the tournament. So did GM Hou Yifan of China winning her game against IM Romanko Marina (pix left) of Russia.
Lone ranger, IM Zatonskih (pix below) of USA made a huge win against GM Sebag Marie of France.

Giant killer, WGM Kovanova had a draw against WGM Ju Wenjun of China. WGM Ruan, who knocked out Baginskatie of USA in the first round, met fellow countryman, WGM Zhang Xiaowen and won the first game.
Here is one of the winning games of the second round of the Women’s World Chess Championship 2010 in Turkey between IM Romanko Marina of Russia and GM Hou Yifan of China, who was the losing finalist in 2008.
Hou Yifan ended a piece up with two knights and five black pawns against white’s rook and two doubled pawns on the h-file.
