Alia Bakri Wins NJCC 2010

20 December 2010, Kuala Lumpur – At the OCM Building, the Girls National Junior Chess Championship 2010 was taking place in parallel with the boys’ chess event from the 15-19th December 2010.

WFM Alia Anin Azwa bt Bakri (top pix) has been crowned the Champion of the Girls National Junior Chess Championship 2010 last night after scoring 8.0 pts from 9 rounds. She had 7 wins and 2 draws. Alia Bakri was the ladies top board chess player for team Malaysia at the recent Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansyisk held late September to early October 2010. She gained her title WFM at that Olympiad and winning this NJCC 2010 title tops the cream of her excellent effort. In second place is WCM Nur Nabila bt Azman Hisham scored a similar 8.0 pts but with a slightly inferior tie-break points. And in third place is WFM Nur Najiha bt. Azman Hisham, younger sister to Nur Nabila. She scored 7.0 points. She had 5 wins and four draws, all draws from top 5 players.

Meanwhile Camilia Johari ended in 11 th position with 5.0 pts, same as Anis Fariha bt Saleh, GiloCatur’s daughter, finishing in  14th spot.

Here is the ninth round game between  Jayamurthey Pavitranayagi and WFM Alia Anin Azwa bt Bakri. Black just played 38…Bxf2, next move 39…Qg1 # mate!
