Two days ago, 4 May 2010 – Game 8 was held where Anand played as Black and Topalov used 1.d4 opening against Anand. The Slav Defence transpired during the game. The game ended in move 56 with Black resigning the game. White had a bishop and five pawns against Black’s opposite colored bishop and four pawns. White managed to maneuver to a winning pawn end game, isolating the Black King away from guarding black’s e6 pawn.

The seventh game (Indian Game: Anti-Nimzo-Indian) ended in move 58, similar to game 6 (Catalan Open), among the few games that needs a longer time to finish. Game 1 (Grunfeld Defence) finished in 30 moves, Game 2 (Catalan) in 43 moves, Game 3 (Slav Defense) in 46 moves, Game 4 (Catalan) in 32 and Game 5 (Slav Defense) in 44 moves.

Today, 6 May 2010 the ninth game will be played and Anand will start as white. Let’s see what happens tonight. Game starts tonight at 8 pm local Malaysian time.
