1 May 2010 – The fifth game of the World Chess Championship between GM Anand and GM Topalov of Bulgaria ended in a draw after a three fold repetition of moves occurred from move 41 to 44. Anand continues to lead 3.0:2.0 in the series of 12 Classical Chess matches to decide the new World Chess Champion in Sofia, Bulgaria.
As a sideline, during the chess game, an electricity power supply disruption occurred within the playing hall and emergency power supply were quickly put in place within minutes by the hosts to avoid further disruption to the game.
GM Topalov playing as white used the 1.d4 in a Slav Defence opening. After the exchange of queens in move 10, white has an active queenside and black has a blocked bishop on the kingside. As in an earlier game, black slowly improves the mobility of the bishop and rooks during the game.

Tonight 1 May 2010 there will be another match for the sixth game of the series between GM Anand and GM Topalov which begins 8 pm local Malaysian time. GM Anand is the reigning World Chess Champion and GM V Topalov is the challenger.
