13 November 2010, Kuala Lumpur – In the Asian Games today, two rounds of chess rapid were played for both Men and Women individuals. Mok lost the first to Kasimdzanov but won the second against Modallal Tarek of Libya.
Meanwhile Alia won her second round against WFM Hallaeva Bahar of Turkmenistan but lost her first to GM Zhu Chen of Qatar, a former World Women’s Chess Champion.
Here is the results for the Malaysian chess contingent after two rounds of rapid play.
IM Mok is in 25th position, Alia in 21st rank and Nur Nabila at 31st position.
Up next, IM Mok will meet another strong chess player from China, GM Ni Hua. While Alia has WGM Pourkashiyan Atousa of Iran (pix above), a regular chess player in the Malaysian Chess Festival series and WCM Nur Nabila will contend with Kim Hyoyoung of South Korea.
Meanwhile in the Asian Games Men’s category after 2 rounds, GM Le Quang Liem of Vietnam, GM Kasimdzanov Rustam of Uzbekistan and GM Ganguly Surya Shekhar are leading. GM Hou Yifan is the leading women chess player in the Women’s category, followedby GM Zhu Chen of Qatar and GM Zhao Xue of China. WGM Sukander Irene Kharisma from Indonesia is in fifth place.
