11 November 2010, Kuala Lumpur – In today’s The Star Online newspaper reported that Malaysia had won 9 gold medals, one silver and five bronze in football, badminton, chess, table tennis and athletics. The same news was also reported on TV3 news, the 8 pm slot last night.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia was seen given the gold medal by Yeoh Li Tian who had won 3 gold medals at APSSO in chess.
Besides Malaysia, six other countries took part in this year's event. They were Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The APSSO is an initiative by Indonesia's National Department of Education to promote solidarity among children in the region, and is open to pupils below the age of 13 from Asean countries.
