Shooter Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi (pix left) and Malaysia’s women wushu exponent youngster Tai Cheau Xuen, both women contributed to Malaysia’s medal tally.

Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi was bang on target on the first day of competition at the Aoti Shooting Range yesterday.

She won the bronze medal in the women's 10m air rifle event to become the first-ever Malaysian female shooter to win a medal in the Asian Games.

The 19-year-old Cheau Xuen, who made her SEA Games debut in Korat three years ago, was taken by surprise by the turn of events.

"I had no Asian Games experience and this is kind of unexpected.”

"I think the pressure was not on me and I was able to bring out a good performance," she said.

Malaysia is ranked joint 13th with Chinese Taipei (Taiwan).
