Another Busy Weekend Ahead For Chess (29 Jan – 1 Feb, 2010)

This coming weekend will be a long weekend for those staying in Wilayah Persekutuan as the Federal Territories Day will be celebrated on Monday, 1 February 2010. Opportunities galore for chess enthusiasts!
First off will be the Insofar Individual FIDE-Rated 2010 at PKNS, Shah Alam on Friday night beginning at 7.30 pm, 29th January 2010. This event is being held biweekly over 7 rounds Swiss using the Classical Chess time of 90 minutes plus 30 second increment.
If you are in the Shah Alam area, look out for GiLoCatur’s announcement of Friday chess hang out for some fun with chess at some restaurant in-and- around the Shah Alam conurbation.
Then on Saturday, 30th January 2010 three events will occur concurrently. The 1st DATCC Individual FIDE Rated Weekender 2010 will continue with its fifth round play at Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur with some 24 players participating of which 15 players are FIDE-rated players and 9 players are unrated. This DATCC event will continue until 1.00 pm on 1st February 2010.
Meanwhile the Excel Chess Academy, Overseas Union Garden, Kuala Lumpur will hold its Thaipusam Chess Rapid over 30th-31st January 2010 over a 10 round Swiss rapid time of 20 minutes plus 30 second increment. This is opposite to the slower classical chess time in DATCC Weekender and Insofar Individual Rated 2010.
The third concurrent event that will occur is the 2nd Kuala Lumpur Junior Chess Championship over 30th-31st January 2010 at the Cochrane Sports Excellence Center in Kuala Lumpur for the youngsters. The one we had in December 2009 was national. This event is for the kids in and around the Kuala Lumpur area. Phew! Too many choices to choose from...[dizzy and spinning].
Then on City Day, 1st February 2010, a Blitz chess event will be held at DATCC in conjunction with the closing of the 1st DATCC Individual FIDE-Rated Weekender 2010 at 2 pm, Dato’ Arthur Tan Chess Centre, 4th Floor, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur.
