Vietnam Men, Chinese Women Win Asian Blitz

The Vietnam men and Chinese women won the gold in the Asian Blitz Team Championship held during the free day in Zaozhuang, China. The Vietnam men's team scored 17 match points in the 9-round Swiss. Kazakhstan tied with equal match points but took silver on game points tie break. China-2 won the bronze medal alone with 13 match points.

In the women's blitz, China-2 won the gold medal with 17 match points followed by Vietnam with 13 points for silver and Indonesia with 12 points for bronze. India and Mongolia tied with 12 match points but Indonesia won the tie break with higher game points.

China's first teams for men and women chose to rest on the free day and did not join the blitz tournament.

India and China-1 won by similar 2½-1½ slates to maintain their lead after 5 rounds of the Asian Nations Cup. Above, India beat Kazakhstan with the winning point scored by GM Negi on board 3 while games on other boards were drawn.


China-1 beat Vietnam on the win by Li Chao above on board 3 while the other boards were drawn. China-2 edged Iran 2½-1½ on wins by GMs Zhao Jun and Wen Yang but on board 1, GM Ehsan outwit GM Zhou Weiqi. Indonesia drew 2:2 with Iraq. Mongolia crushed Singapore 3:1. Yemen beat Hong Kong 3:1. Korea blanked Chinese Taipei 4:0.


China-1 and India are tied with 9 match points each. China-2 is in third slot with 7 points followed by Kazakhstan in fourth with 6 points. Vietnam, Mongolia, Indonesia, Iran and Iraq are tied at 5 points each.

In the Women’s division, China-1 outclassed Kazakhstan 3½:½ to widen their solo lead. China-3 kept pace, beating Mongolia 3½:½. China-2 edged Vietnam 2½:1½. India crushed Indonesia 3:1 and Singapore upset Iran 3:1.

China-1 is alone with 10 match points. India is in second with 8 points, China-3 with 7 and China-2 with 6 points. Iran has 5 points followed by Indonesia with 4 points.
