31 May 2012, Kuala Lumpur - A message from Jan Lim, wife of late Lim Chong.
Dear friends, chess fraternity, Lim Chong’s former colleagues, classmates & relatives,
It was heart warming and touching to see so many of you at the 1st Lim Chong Memorial Chess Competition last year on 27 March. My son has discovered so many wonderful things about his dad through you all and personally, I have taken great solace in knowing that my late husband had great friends. What more when I discovered that individual chess blogs write about him and how he and his chess contributions will be missed.
It will be really wonderful to see you again, and also those who missed the event, at the 2nd LCMCC on 3 June 2012 to be held @ DAT Chess Centre, Lot 4.20CS, 4th Floor Car Park, Kompleks Wilayah, No 2, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, 50100 Kuala Lumpur. (Please refer to attached entry form for details)
This year, we intend having a separate ‘fun’ tournament open to all members of the journalism fraternity, past and present. No doubt “The pen is mightier than the sword” but we are hoping that some sharpened skills and points can be scored by those of you who are up to a game of moves and manoeuvrings on the chequered board. Do please email me
if you are interested.
Last year we managed to raise sufficient funds for the LCMCC which has enabled us to cover the costs for this 2nd tournament. Although we are not raising funds for this year’s event, donations are still welcome (for the next J)
So thank you to last year’s donors:
Dato’ Tan Chin Nam (Honorary Life President of The Malaysian Chess Federation)
Ho Kay Tat (now chief executive of The Star),
R Nadeswaran (special projects editor of The Sun),
Chua Huck Cheng (former Malay Mail editor, ST leader writer, now in New Zealand),
K.C. Boey (former Malay Mail editor, The Age Melbourne, now with MI copy desk) & Hannah
William (sub-editor, The Age in Sydney) & Helen D’Cruz (TAFE in Sydney), IT Publications ‘alumni’ – the Khoo Brothers: Derrik & Datuk Dan-E, Cindy Koh, Cordelia and Debbie Leon, NSTP colleagues Sheila Rahman-Natarajan, Eric Peris, Phua Eng Chye, Teoh Hock Siew, Lee Pang Seng, P. C Shivadas, Ooi Inn Leong, Padmaja
Padman and Lim Chong’s ‘reason’ for wanting to be a journalist, “Philip Mathews, I will never forgive you.”
Methodist Boys’ Schoolmates - Jeffrey Lok, Alan Lim, Gary Ng, Johnny Wong, Ho Sook Weng, Yeo Boon Seng, and many others, including contributions from the Lim Family. International Master Tan Lian Ann gallantly paid RM500 for the Chess Cake (which he donated back for everyone present to have a slice of) and Lena Spittle bid RM700 for the beautiful photograph by Eric Peris’ “Samadhi”, which she insisted I keep. Kindly excuse me if I have left
anyone out.
Tea will be served at 5pm after the prize-giving. Kindly consider this an invitation and do join us in remembering “Mr Lim Chong – The One & Only”. (This was a sweet article at http://2010chessodyssey.blogspot.com/2011/03/mr-lim-chong-one-and-only.html)
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, 3rd June 2012. Please do make the time to RSVP to me at janlim00@hotmail.com by Sunday, 27 May 2012 (to make sure enough food!)
Thank you all.
