30 July 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Caruana of Italy won the playoffs at Biel, Switzerland after there was a three-way tie between Vachier, Caruana and Truong Son for first place with 5.5 points each.
In the playoffs, Caruana first played Vachier of France and won the Armageddon games and then he met Truong Son over two 10-minute games which he drew one and won the other.
