28 July 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Vishy Anand, the World Chess Champion, suggests that playing chess among school going children helps the development of important life skills such as memory and self-confidence. In order to play in chess tournaments, the players will need some self-confidence to play against opponents and require some memory on basic chess openings.
An Indian study on a sample of 13,000 schools found that the children that have played chess over 100 chess games have improved their performance in mathematics and science.
