KKR Wins Chess Works Sports Carnival 2012

13 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Kuala Terengganu, the Works Sports Carnival 2012 is being held from 11-14 July 2012 which includes Chess. The sports carnival is being held in the mini-stadium of the Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Gong Badak. The sports carnival involves all of the major highway concessionaires, Works Ministry (KKR), Malaysia Highway Authority(LLM), Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and Public Works Dept. (JKR).

However in the chess event only five teams participated comprising of Works Ministry (KKR), Public Works Dept. (JKR), PLUS Highway, CIDB and ANIH Highway ( before MTD). The early favorites were CIDB. However, PLUS and JKR gave a good account of themselves during the five round. However, the surprise winners were team Works Ministry, which had a balanced team.

Works Ministry won the chess team tournament over a single round robin scoring 10 Board Points and 6 Match points. Second, PLUS team with 9.5 board points and 5 match points and third, CIDB team with 9.0 board points and 5 match points.

Well done to team Works Ministry for winning the first gold medal in the chess event in the series of Works Sports Carnival 2012. In Kuantan last year, Works Ministry won the bronze medal, while in Melaka 2008, they were placed fifth out of 12 teams.
