13 October 2011, Kuala Lumpur - Last night Puteri Rifqah Fahada Bt Azhar finally got it right by winning the precious gold medal for team Malaysia at the 5th APSSO chess rapid individual girls category. Rifqah scored 5.5 points from 7 rounds of rapid play held over two days. She managed to reduce her draws to just one and won all the others. Congratulations to Rifqah for persevering hard and gritty enough by winning and confirming her top seeding.

Meanwhile Yeoh Li Tian suffered a slight setback by winning the Silver medal for Malaysia. Li Tian lost to Novendra Priasmoro of Indonesia  in the fourth round of play. Novendra eventually finished as the champion of the boys individual rapid event.
