14 October 2011, Kuala Lumpur – The Star Online portal by Quah Seng Sun today discussed about the latest upcoming Asian Amateur Open Chess Championship 2011 that is coming to our shores in Malaysia. The event has never been played on Malaysian soil. The event as it’s name suggests is for Amateurs and all titled players from FIDE are not eligible to play.
The excitement transcends from the Malaysian Chess Federation president, Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib who is optimistic that Malaysian chess players will be just as excited to have such a prestigious chess event come to their own country.
No doubt all 40 countries in the Asian Chess Federation will be invited to participate alongside the Malaysian hosts in Kuala Lumpur.
