29 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – After the completion of round 8 of the 13th EICC 2012 in Plovdiv Bulgaria, three players comprising of GM Malakhov Vladimir (Russia), GM Matlakov Maxim (Russia) and GM Akopian Vladimir (Armenia) are leading jointly. They have scored 6.5 points. The tournament is still so close and anyone in the top 50 can still win this tournament depending how the rivals perform.
Trailing behind in a big bunch of 17 players with 6.0 points are Jones, Kuzubov, Vitiugov, Bacrot, Fressinet, Inarkiev, Andreikin, Kobalia, Vachier-Lagrave, Jobava, Vallejo, Azarov, Sokolov, Korobov, Volokitin, Khenkin, dan Istratescu.

Here is the round 8 game between GM Matlakov Maxim of Russia and GM Viktor Bologan of Moldova of the 13th EICC, Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Matlakov won with white pieces. The game looks close. It was just a matter of who got the checkmate first!
