5 June 2010, Subic – At the 11th Asean Age Group Chess Championship, our Malaysian contingent for the Under-20 Open are doing fairly mixed. Edward Lee Kim Han (pix left) has won both his first two rounds and will meet Wiwatandate of Thailand in the third round, while Mark Siew lost his second round but has one point from his first round win. Meanwhile Muhd Tariq Amru has a half point from first round draw. Tariq will meet Morazo of Philippines and Mark will meet FM Nguyen of Vietnam in round three tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile in the Under-10 Open category of the Asean Age Group, our lone Malaysian representative, Amier Hamzah has scored 1.5 points from two rounds. He will play Doan Nguyen of Vietnam in the third round. Let’s hope Amier Hamzah will continue his fine form.
In the Open Under 14, Malaysia is represented by Lim Win Sen has not won in his first two rounds of play so far. Maybe he will chalk up a win in the coming rounds.
In the Under-10 girls category, Nur Faqihah bt Aminuddin of Malaysia has not won any of her first two rounds yet. She will meet WFM Vo Mai Truc of Vietnam in her third round tomorrow morning.
While in the Under-8 girls category, Maisarah Zainoor has not won yet after two rounds of play.
