In the thrilling middle-game, Lim sacrificed a knight on the 59th move …Nxc5+ for an attack on white’s king but the hope of a black win did not materialise as white was about to checkmate black in four moves.

Meanwhile FM Girish A Koushik of India continued his giant killing ways by disposing GM Grandelius Nils of Sweden. Top seed, GM Matlakov of Russia continue to underperform by losing to Armenian GM Ter-Sahakyan Samvel. GM Sjugirov Sanan of Russia was held back to a draw against FM Kovalev Vladislav of Bulgaria.
