12 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Alexander Grischuk was declared the new World Blitz Champion after scoring 7 wins, 5 draws and 3 losses. He scored 20.0 points. A close second was World No. 1, Magnus Carlsen, who scored 19.5 points.

11 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The Grand Asia Chess Challenge 2012 ended yesterday with National University of Singapore (A) winning the overall title with 23 points.
Second, International Islamic University Malaysia (A) scoring 22.5 points and third was University Malaya, 22 points.
Alahakoon Isuru (pix above) of Sri Lanka won the individual event with 8 points. Second, Muhd Syazwan Zulkifli of UM with 7.5 points and third, Asian Master Ahmad Fadzil Nayan of IIUM with 7.0 points.
Best lady was Nor Atiqah Mohd Niza, UTEN with 5.5 points and runners-up best lady went to Ruby Kwan Tszee Yeung of UPSI with 5.0 points.

11 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The Malaysian chess teams to the upcoming Chess Olympiad in Turkey 27 Aug-10 September 2012, has been announced on Biro Catur Wanita MCF's blog or you may read at Olympiad’s official website to read the same. This year’s chess Olympiad will be held in Istanbul, Turkey.
The women’s team will comprise of Nur Najiha bt Azman Hisham, Nur Nabila bt Azman Hisham, Fong Mi Yen, Tan Li Ting, and Camilia Johari, in that order.
While the Malaysian men’s team will comprise of Mok Tse Meng, Lim Yee Weng, Yeoh Li Tian, Jimmy Liew Chee Meng and Lim Zhuo Ren, in that order.

9 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Today two rounds of classical chess were played at the Dewan Tuanku Cancelor University of Malaya. Muhd Syazwan Zulkifli (top right pix) representing University Malaya won his game against Hu Yang while Ahmad Fadzil Nayan (bottom pix) representing UIA won with black pieces against Wang Guanyu. Meanwhile both Chek Kin Keuw of Malaysia representing University Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Ruby Kwan Tszee Yeung (top left pix) of UPSI drew their respective games.
Team standings after round 7 indicate that National University of Singapore A (NUS) is ahead with 19.5 points overall. While team University Putra Malaysia A (UPM – A) is second with 17.5 points and team International Islamic University Malaysia A (IIUM – A) is third with 17.0 points.

8 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In today’s 23rd Selangor Juniors Open 2012 under-16 organised by the Selangor Chess Association, Tan Yong Zhao won with 5.5 points. He beat 24 other contestants in the event. Second place went to Ethan Wong Hsien Aun (pix above) who scored 5.5 points despite scoring a stronger tie-break points. Congrats to Tan Yong Zhao!
Meanwhile in the U-12 was won by Nithyalakshmi Sivanesan with 7 points! And Nithyala is a girl! Well done to her!

Chessdom.com reported that Sergey Karjakin (pix below left) of Russia and Magnus Carlsen (pix below right) are leaders of the World Rapid Chess Championship 2012 after day 1 in Astana, Kazakhstan. Karjakin convincingly won against Gelfand, Tkachiev, Ismgambetov, and Grischuk, and after a secure draw against Topalov in round 5 is at the top with 4,5/5.Carlsen is with the same result after victories against Kazhgaleyev, Morozevich, Bologan, Kurnosov and a draw with Svidler.
The above game is round 10 game between Sergey Karjakin playing black against World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen of Norway in which Carlsen won.
