Lim Zhou Ren Wins 9th Rd, World Junior 2011

11 August 2011, Kuala Lumpur – Here is the ninth round game played by NM Lim Zhou Ren (pix below), MAS 2155 against Yohan J of India 2017 during the 50th World Junior 2011 in Chennai, India. The tournament is played over 13 rounds of classical time control.

During the game, Lim manages to outfox his opponent on the 24th move by winning the undefended rook at a8 as shown in pix 2. By the 29th move (pix 3), white bishop was about to take black’s central pawn e4 and take a commanding position on the board while checking black’s king on h7. Black has no checking opportunities against white. A nice win for Lim Zhuo Ren of Malaysia and increases his tally to 4 points.

Lim Zhou Ren’s 8th Round Game, World Junior

11 August 2011, Kuala Lumpur – In Chennai, India, Malaysia’s Lim Zhou Ren played Krishna C R G of India (2330) in the 8th round of the 50th World Junior Chess Championship 2011 in a King’s Indian Defence opening [E67].

In the thrilling middle-game, Lim sacrificed a knight on the 59th move …Nxc5+ for an attack on white’s king but the hope of a black win did not materialise as white was about to checkmate black in four moves.

High flyer IM Rombaldoni suffered his first serious loss against GM Hovhannisyan of Armenia in the eighth round yesterday. Meanwhile FM Girish A Koushik of India continued his giant killing ways by disposing GM Grandelius Nils of Sweden. Top seed, GM Matlakov of Russia continue to underperform by losing to Armenian GM Ter-Sahakyan Samvel. GM Sjugirov Sanan of Russia was held back to a draw against FM Kovalev Vladislav of Bulgaria.

Meanwhile Lim Zhou Ren with 3 points on hand will now meet Yohan J of India in the ninth round today, 11th August 2011.

Zhuo Ren in 100th Rank, WJ

6 August 2011, Kuala Lumpur - Lim Zhuo Ren is now lying in 100th rank after the fourth round of the World Junior Chess Championship in Chennai, India. He beat Jaswant G in the third round but lost to an IM in the fourth.

Carlsen Wins Biel’s Accentus GM Tournament

4 August 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the 44th Biel Chess Festival in Switzerland, the ACCENTUS GM tournament was held from 21 July 2011 – 3 August 2011 and resulted in Magnus Carlsen of Norway winning 19 points from 10 rounds of play. Second was Alexander Morozevich of Russia with 17 points and third Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France with 12 points.

Sjugirov Wins First Round, World Junior

3 August 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the World Junior Open, most of the top seeds won their first round games. Among them Sjugirov of Russia, 2629 rating. Top seed GM Matlakov Maxim of Russia (2632), drew against Indian, FM Rajesh V A V (2292) in their first round game.

Malaysian NM Lim Zhou Ren (2155) lost his first round game against Italian, IM Rambaldoni Axel (2459). Lim Zhou Ren will meet IM Vaibhav Suri, (2430) from India in the second round tomorrow.

3 August 2011, Kuala Lumpur - for the upcoming Dato' Arthur Tan Malaysian Open 2011, there are 96 pre-registered players with defending champion GM Cao Sang of Vietnam, 2533, in this list.
