Venue: Kolej Tun Dr Ismail (KTDI)
Dates: 11 March 2012 (Postponed to 1 April 2012 - Latest!)
Format: 7 rounds Swiss, 25 min time control
Time: 8am-6.30pm (Registration start from 8am to 9.00am, Round 1 start at 9.30am)
Entry fee: UPM student​​ - RM10

Perak Grand Prix Chess–Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng, 2nd Leg

29 Feb 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Perak, PICA has announced the 2nd leg of the Perak Grand Prix Chess Championship 2012. The 2nd Leg of the Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng chess grand prix tournament will be held at the Chinese Recreation Club in Taiping on March 4, 2012, Sunday. It will be played over seven rapid rounds with a 25-minute time control. This is a series of tournaments to be held in several towns in Perak in the year. The first leg has been held in Kuala Kangsar, Perak last month and regarded as hugely successful with a big turnout of chess enthusiasts.

There are 3 sections, namely:

  • open
  • under-16
  • under-12

The top 10 winners will be awarded cumulative Grand Prix points but only from the open section of each leg.

27 February 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Yesterday at DATCC was held the INSOFAR Combined Tournament 2012 for the month of February 2012. Ahmad Fadzil Nayan turned out to be the day’s champion with 6.5 points from seven rounds of rapid chess play.

Germany’s Chess League – OSG Baden Baden Leads

25 Feb 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Germany, TWIC reported that the 10th and 11th round of the Schachbundesliga take place 25th and 26th of February 2012. Venues Wattenscheid, Hockenheim, Trier and Remagen.

In Wattenscheid the host awaits Dortmund, Muelheim and Katernberg for the four matches of the weekend. All teams are situated in the Ruhr area of Germany, so many spectators are expected to visit the games. While three of the teams are ranked in the midfield of the table Dortmund is fighting against relegation.

Ken Yew Liew Winner Of Chess Rating Tournament

23 February 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Latest News: Ken Yew Liew won the recently held Cheras Rating Tournament 2012 held from 4-7 February 2012 at the Cheras Chess Academy run by Mr. Collin Madhavan.

Ken scored 7.5 points from a single-round robin of 9 rounds of play. Meanwhile Wan Lin Yap came in second, eventhough he scored 7.5 points but a lower tie-break point. Eddy Kwan was third with 6.5 points and Lim Kian Hwa, fourth, with 6 points.

Nana Dzagnidze Wins ACP Women Cup 2012

23 Feb 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Tbilisi Georgia, Nana Dzagnidze of Georgia  won the ACP Women Cup 2012 with a score of 8.0 points after two blitz games of the tie-break match were drawn against Swedish Pia Cramling, thus the winner was to be decided in one final Armageddon game. Nana Dzagnidze managed to win the game and became the winner of the ACP Women Cup.

19 Feb 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Chessdom.com reported that the two rounds were scheduled for the first day of the competition. All participants displayed their well-known fighting spirit and only one game out of 12, Kosintseva N. – Dzagnidze, finished in a draw. Nana Dzagnidze’s rook and knight couldn’t gain the victory against Kosintseva’s rook.

Anna Muzychuk, Katerina Lahno, Pia Cramling, and the legendary champion Maia Chiburdanidze succeeded in winning both games and now share the first place with maximum points.
