DYTM Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Invitational KL Masters 2013 announcement!

 

2 June 2013, Kuala Lumpur – The Malaysian Intellect Development Foundation through KL Chess has announced an upcoming FIDE Rated chess tournament, the DYTM Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Invitational KL Masters 2013. It will be a 10 player, 9 round robin FIDE Rated tournament to be held from 13-21 June at the Swiss Inn Kuala Lumpur.

IM Mas Hafizulhelmi, IM Rolando Nolte, GM Oliver Dimakling are reportedly participating in this edition of the KL Masters.

However, no news of any Kuala Lumpur Chess Open yet.

Jimmy Liew declared DATCC Blitz Champion!

2nd June 2013, Kuala Lumpur – Today DATCC held a blitz chess tournament over 13 rounds and the final rankings are shown in the picture above (taken by Masrin Erowan of Sabah). IM Jimmy Liew won the blitz with 12 points and declared the Blitz Champion. Meanwhile Masrin Erowan finished second with 10 points, third Ahmad Fadzil Nayan with 9.5 points. Twenty-two players participated.

Langkawi Chess Open 2013, 15-16 June 2013

5th May 2013, Kuala Lumpur (Repost) – As registration is slow, the organiser is hoping a better number of registrants the next two weeks leading to 15th June 2013.  The Pusat Akademi Catur Utara (PACU) has announced a new chess tournament to be held in Langkawi, Kedah on the 15-16 June 2013 called Langkawi Chess Open 2013. The tournament is organised by Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad.

Aron Teh Eu Wen Crowned New Champion Nat Closed 2013

1st June 2013, Kuala Lumpur – In Kuala Terengganu, the final ninth round was played in the National Chess Closed Championship 2013. Aron Teh Eu Wen won his last round and crowned the new National Master (NM) and champion of the National Closed Chess Championship 2013. Aron scored 7.5 points to win outright.

Second, Fong Yit San with 7.0 points. While third went to Wong Jianwen with 6.5 points and fourth, Muhd Syazwan Zulkifli with 6.5 points.

Aron Teh, Fong Yit San Jointly Leads Into Final Round, National Closed 2013

31 May 2013, Kuala Lumpur – Wong Jianwen of Kuala Lumpur fell to Aron Teh Eu Wen of Perak while Fong Yit San of Perak strengthens his position with a win over Ismail Ahmad of Kedah. Both Aron Teh and Fong Yit San have scored identical 6.5 points.

Masrin, Fong Yit San Jointly Leads After Round 4, National Closed 2013

 

29 May 2013, Kuala Lumpur – The round four results gave some interesting upsets as lower seeded Fong Yit San won his game against top seed Yeoh Li Tian during the National Chess Closed 2013 being held in University Malaysia Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu. Two players are in the lead with a perfect score of 4.0 points, namely, Masrin Erowan of Sabah and Fong Yit San of Perak.

The diagram below shows the final position after white played 60. g3 and black resigned. White has four pawns to black’s single pawn. A huge advantage to white and well done to Fong Yit San.

Chess Events At DATCC In June 2013

Folks,
Be on the lookout for more events at DATCC this coming June starting withour Blitz Event on Sunday, 2nd June 2013 right up to 22nd and 23rd June withthe 1st Ketoyong Classical event offering a prize fund of more than RM 2,500with RM 1,500 set aside for the eventual victor.
For this coming weekend, DATCC will be organizing its monthly Blitz Event onSunday, 2nd June 2013 starting with Registration at 10:00am followed byRound 1 to start at 11:00am. The 13 rounds Swiss event will have the usualoffering for the top 8 finishers with additional prizes for Veteran, Lady,U12, U17 and Best DATCC Members prize. Next weekend, on Sunday 9th June 2013, DATCC will also be running anotherone of its Monthly event, the Fabulous Rapid Chess Weekend to be played over7 rounds using a time control of 25 minutes played to the finish. The prizestructure format remains the same where the top 6 winners will win the Openprize with additional prizes for the Best U1600 and Best U1400 players, andthe usual Lady, Veteran, Unrated and Junior prizes including the Best DATCC Member's prize. For the next two weeks from then, DATCC will hosting the 3rd Lim ChongMemorial Chess Tournament to be held on 16th June, and following that, the1st Ketoyong Classic Weekend scheduled on 22nd and 23rd June. The Lim Chong Memorial Chess Tournament (16th June 2013) is held incollaboration with the family of the late Lim Chong, Malaysia's most celebrated chess player, columnist and writer whom passed away during abusiness trip in November 2010. Lim Chong has always been a staunchsupporter of DATCC events and chess in general especially during his yearsas a weekly chess columnist for the Malay Mail in the 80's and 90's. A small reception with light refreshment awaits those who participate in this event. Participants will also have a chance to mingle with media friends of the late Lim Chong including Jan Lim, Lim Chong's widow, who is more than happy to share her memories about her late husband and showing off her collection of cakes for all occasions. The 1st Ketoyong Classic (22nd and 23rd June 2013) is a 7 rounds 2 days event to be played using a time control of 45 minutes plus 30 seconds increment per player per game. The event is scheduled to start on Saturday,22nd June at 8:00pm with Round 1 at 9:15 am followed by Round 2 to be played before lunch. 2 more rounds to be played in the second half of the day followed by the balance 3 rounds on Sunday, 23rd June 2013. The event offers a total prize fund of more than RM 2,500 with the eventual winner to earn RM1,500 for his/her effort. Li Tian Among Seven In The Lead, National Chess Closed 2013

29 May 2013, Kuala Lumpur – Seven players are in the lead with a perfect 2.0 points after two rounds of classical play in the National Chess Closed 2013 in Kuala Terengganu being held at University Malaysia Terengganu. In round 3, Yeoh Li Tian of Selangor will meet Mark Siew of Perak on top board and Masrin Erowan of Sabah meets Leong Mun Wan of Johor.
