ASEAN AGE GROUP CHESS CH, SUBIC 2010

EdwardLim5 June 2010, Subic – At the 11th Asean Age Group Chess Championship, our Malaysian contingent for the Under-20 Open are doing fairly mixed. Edward Lee Kim Han (pix left) has won both his  first two rounds and will meet Wiwatandate of Thailand in the third round, while Mark Siew lost his second round but has one point from his first round win. Meanwhile Muhd Tariq Amru has a half point from first round draw. Tariq will meet Morazo of Philippines and Mark will meet FM Nguyen of Vietnam in round three tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile in the Under-10 Open category of the Asean Age Group, our lone Malaysian representative, Amier Hamzah has scored 1.5 points from two rounds. He will play Doan Nguyen of Vietnam in the third round. Let’s hope Amier Hamzah will continue his fine form.

In the Open Under 14, Malaysia is represented by Lim Win Sen has not won in his first two rounds of play so far. Maybe he will chalk up a win in the coming rounds.

In the Under-10 girls category, Nur Faqihah bt Aminuddin of Malaysia has not won any of her first two rounds yet. She will meet WFM Vo Mai Truc of Vietnam in her third round tomorrow morning.

While in the Under-8 girls category, Maisarah Zainoor has not won yet after two rounds of play.

SM’s Chess Workshop – “How To Study Chess Endgame”

4 June 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Got wind of news that the 3rd Leg of the Stonemaster Amateur Cerdik Catur EnterpriseSpecial Edition will be held on the 27 June 2010 at none other than at DATCC, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur. The event is organised by Cerdik Catur Enterprise. Look out for tournament details at stonemaster.info in the near future.

Training With Indonesian NM In Segamat

4 June 2010 – Another handphone sms from Mohd Zullghafari regarding a proposed chess training at Sekolah Menengah Seri Kenangan, Segamat, Johor to be conducted by one Susanto Rahman, Indonesian National Master on the 26-27 June 2010. Ziaur Rahman Does A Simul?

3 June 2010, Kuala Lumpur – There is a proposed move to have aimage simultaneous chess exhibition by GM Ziaur Rahman against four pre-selected DATCC Malaysian players. The simultaneous chess exhibition will be held at DATCC, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, 9th June 2010, begins at 7 pm sharp.

Those interested to watch can drop by the Dato’ Arthur Tan Chess Center next Wednesday evening to watch the simul exhibition by GM Z Rahman.

Friendly Match MCF vs DATCC

2 June 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Tonight before the friendly match between Malaysian Chess Federation chess team against the scratch DATCC chess team of 8 boards each, a light dinner was served to the officials of MCF and the participating players courtesy of DATCC.

MCF President, Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib (pix on left), did the honours of picking the colour of the first board for MCF chess team. Black was chosen and En. Ibrahim of MCF chess team played as black on the first board against Dato’ Tan Chin Nam.

Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib was team captain of MCF chess team while Dato’ Tan Chin Nam played as team captain for DATCC chess team.

By 9.00 pm, seven boards were done with the score of 4-3 in favour of MCF chess team. The following picture illustrates the various board scores. The eighth and last board was between Razali Hamzah aka Ng6 for MCF chess team vs Mr Choo Min Wang of DATCC chess team and still playing when I left DATCC, then.

Weekend Chess Activities, 5-6 June 2010

2 June 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Looks like this weekend would be a relatively quiet weekend for chess except for the Insofar Categories Tournament and a Malaysian Schools Chess event in Perlis this weekend.

For details of the Insofar Categories Tournament you may read below and click the link for more details:-

a. Insofar Categories Tournament (FIDE-Rated), Kuala Lumpur begins 3rd June 2010, Shah Alam begins 4th June 2010, Bangi begins 5th June 2010. Click here for details. The Kuala Lumpur tourney lacks participants and has been called off by the TD but Bangi and Shah Alam are positively on.

b. Malaysian Schools Chess event in Perlis, 6th-11th June 2010 (fireyrook has no details of it, maybe one can reach at mssm2010.com for details)

However, this evening there will be a friendly chess match between Malaysian Chess Federation officials against a scratch team of DATCC players at DATCC, Wilayah Complex, Kuala Lumpur. Game starts 6.00 pm.
