7th MBSSKL Chess Open Tournament 2012
29 June 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The Methodist Boys’ Secondary School Kuala Lumpur is organising the 7th MBSSKL Chess Open Tournament 2012 on the 7th July 2012, Saturday.
Four categories will be offered for both boys and girls: Under-14, Under-17, Under-23 and Special Education. Six rapid rounds of FIDE Swiss-System will be held during the one day tournament.

DYTM Raja Nazrin Shah International Open 2012
28 June 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The DYTM Raja Nazrin Shah International Open 2012 Chess Championship 2012 is due 17-23 September 2012 at the Olympic Sports Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
Format of the tournament will be played over a 9 rounds Swiss System and according to FIDE Title and Rating Regulations with a time control of 90 minutes over 40 moves followed by 30 minutes plus a 30 second time increment per move for the rest of the game.

MMU International Chess Open 2012 – 1st Sept 2012
27 June 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The organisers of the Multimedia University (Melaka Campus) International Chess Open (ICO) 2012 has rescheduled the tournament to the new date of 1st-2nd September 2012.
It will be a 7 round rapid FIDE Swiss-System with a 45 minutes + No increment time control.

Svidler Wins 3-1 In Prague

26 June 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Prague, Svidler won his game against Navara with two wins and two draws giving him a 3-1 win.
Chessvibes.com reported that Peter Svidler defeated David Navara with a score of 3-1 in the traditional Čez Chess Trophy match in Prague, Czech Republic. The Russian grandmaster decided the match on Saturday with a second win, and then the last game was drawn on Sunday.

Bagamasbad Efren Jose Wins MBPJ Open 2012
24 June 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In the MBPJ Chess Open 2012 held earlier today at the MBPJ Library hall, Bagamasbad (pix above) of Philippines won with 7 points out of 7 rounds.
In second was Muhd Nabil Azman Hisham (pix above left) with 6 points and third went to veteran Jax Tham Tick Hong, also with 6 points. In fourth place, Muhd Syakir Shazmeer Azhar with 6 points and fifth was NM Kamalarifin Wahiduddin (pix above right) with 5.5 points.

Round 5 pairings, MBPJ Chess Open 2012
24 June 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) Open Tournament 2012 is being organised at the PJ Library center. The round 5 pairings below indicate that Jax Tham, Bagamasbad Efren Jose, Kamaluddin Yusof, Mohd Tayah Wahab and Abdul Shukor A Rajah are leading with four points from four rounds of play.
A total of 87 players were registered and participated in this one-day rapid chess event.

Here is a game between Syakir Syazmeer Azhar and John Law. Syazmeer is playing the white pieces. The black king at g7 is under check by the white queen at h8. The only square for the black king is Kf7 and next move by white is Rh7 # mate! John Law resigned at this point and white won! Well done Syakir Syazmeer.
SMK ST Thomas Wins Team Chess Rapid
24 June 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Kuantan Pahang, six schools participated in a team chess rapid event organised by Kelab Setia Catur Kuantan and Sekolah Menengah St Thomas, Kuantan. Sekolah Menengah St Thomas emerged the champions with a 14 Match Points and 24.5 board points.
The event was organised by St Thomas Secondary School in Kuantan and eight school teams around Kuantan participated. St. Thomas Secondary School and Paya Besar Secondary School, each had two chess teams participating in this event.

1st SMK Seri Bintang Utara KL Open Tournament 2012
23 June 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Here is a new school chess tournament to be held on 30th June 2012 at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Bintang Utara, Kuala Lumpur. The tournament is called 1st SMK SBU Chess Open Tournament 2012, organised by Kelab Kebitaraan Catur SMK SBU for the age-groups, U-10, U-12, U-15, U-18 categories.

13th ASEAN International Youth Championship 2012 Vietnam
23 June 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Vietnam, chessdom.com reported that the 13th ASEAN Age-Group Championships opened on 11th June in the ancient city of Hue, Vietnam with more than 400 players from 11 countries competing in 78 events – classical, rapid, blitz – individual and team. Hue City this year celebrates its 1,000th Anniversary. The opening ceremony which took 90 minutes was broadcast live on national TV.
Located in the center of Vietnam, Hue city is well known for its historic monuments, which have earned it a place in UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.
Participants were divided in the U-8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 20 Age-Groups for Girls and Open. In addition, Seniors (aged 50 and above) was held. Here are the final standings of the classical chess.
The next large youth ASEAN event is the 1st ASEAN International youth championship.

Muzychuk, Koneru Joint First, Kazan FIDE Women GP
23 June 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Kazan, both Humpy Koneru of India and Anna Muzychuk of Slovenia were declared joint winners with Kirsan doing the honours.
The official website of the tournament reported that the closing ceremony took place in the Korston Hotel and was attended by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Minister on Affairs of Youth, Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan Rafis Burganov, players, officials and spectators. The winners Anna Muzychuk and Humpy Koneru were awarded with big wooden chess pieces and all the participants of FIDE Grand Prix in Kazan were awarded with flowers and presents. Viktorija Cmilyte received a special prize devoted to 100 years anniversary since the birthday of Rashit Nezmetdinov. Her victory against World Champion Hou Yifan was chosen by the organizing committee as the best game.
At the closing ceremony FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has made a surprisinggift for the Chess Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan - a set of electronic boards, in which participants played!
