14 August 2013, Kuala Lumpur – Today the round 6 of the Malaysian Chess Open 2013 resumes at 3 pm with GM Xiu Deshun of China on top board facing off with GM Gupta Abhijeet of India while GM Ma Qun of China meets IM Illingworth Max of Australia on board two.

Meanwhile in the Ambank Chess Challenge 2013, Shreyes Subramaniam is storming the leadboard with 5 full points so far and he is playing on top board against Largo Bengt in round 6 this afternoon.

18th Grand Asian Chess Challenge 2014

14th August 2013, Kuala Lumpur -  The 18th Grand Asian Chess Challenge – International Inter-Varsity Chess Championship 2014 organised by University of Malaya, will be held from 23 January – 28 January 2014 at the Faculty of Built Environment, University of Malaya.

It will be a FIDE-Rated International chess competition.

11 August 2013, Kuala Lumpur – GM Ma Qun overcomes GM Laxman of India on top board of round 3 during the IGB Malaysian Chess Open 2013 earlier today at the CitiTel Mid Valley Hotel. GM Ma Qun of China continues to accumulate another point, scoring 3 full points and is the top seed of the Malaysian Open.

Updates of Malaysian Chess Festival 2013

5th August 2013, Kuala Lumpur – Chess Connections has just updated the registered participants for the upcoming major tournaments in conjunction with the Malaysian Chess Festival 2013 from 9-19th August 2013.

As reported by Chess Connections - Appended below are the tentative list of players that have registered for the 10th IGB Malaysia Open, AMBANK Amateur Chess Challenges, and KLK Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng Seniors Open which will start from 9th August (with players meeting at 9:00pm) and Round 1 to clock off at 9:00am the next day, Saturday, 10th August 2013. The final Round 9 to be played on Friday, 16th August 2013 with Blitz to follow after Friday prayers starting at 3:00pm and prize giving ceremony for the main categories a bit later in the evening.

Take note that these are tentative listings and you can expect the numbers to increase/decrease as the event day approaches. So far, there are 115 players for the Malaysia Open (the highest we had was 133 in 2010 or was it 2011?), 85 players for Amateur (the highest number of players in the Festival 10 year history) and 20 players for the Seniors.

5th Penang Heritage City International Chess Open 2013

5th August 2013, Kuala Lumpur – The Penang Chess Association (PCA) has announced the year end 5th Penang Heritage City International Chess Open 2013 at the Red Rock Hotel from 9th-13th December 2013. It will be a 9 rounds Swiss System with time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment per move.

Maxime Vachier-Lagrave wins GM Biel 2013

3rd August 2013, Kuala Lumpur – Maxime Vachier-Lagrave survived the semi-final and final tie-break yesterday overcoming Alexander Moiseenko 1.5-0.5 in the final. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave is the winner of the Biel Chess Grandmaster Tournament 2013 in Switzerland.

Rakan Muda Chess Merdeka in Johor Bahru

1 August 2013, Kuala Lumpur – The JB District Chess Association in collaboration of Pioneer Heritage and Rakan Muda Johor Bahru are jointly organising a Merdeka Chess Tournament on the 1st September 2013, Sunday at GIANT Taman Suria, Johor Bahru.

There will be three categories comprising of the Open, Under-17 and Under-12 categories available. It will be a 7 rapid round Swiss System with 20 minutes time control. Closing date is the 30th August 2013, Friday.

19th Kepong Juniors Open Chess Tournament, 20th October 2013

1st August 2013, Kuala Lumpur - the Parent-Teacher Association of SJK (C) Kepong 2, Kuala Lumpur are organizing an age-group Open Chess Tournament this coming 20th October 2013, Sunday, at the school's premises of SJK (C)Kepong 2, 52100 Kuala Lumpur.

It will be a seven round tournament Swiss System with 25 minutes time control. Four age categories comprising of U-8, U-10, U-12, U-16 categories are available.
